"I wish I knew why all these people were changing," Zelda whispered to herself, as she walked towards the stairs.
Mikey's eyes went wide. How did she know people were changing? No one was supposed to know, except for Mikey.
Thinking quickly, he darted out into the hallway. "Uh ... Zelda?" He had never spoken to Zoe's friends before, so he felt a little awkward.
Zelda stopped and turned around.
"I need to talk to you."
She looked hesitant. What did Mikey want? He had never talked to her before. But after a moment, she walked into Mikey's room.
"Um ... what did you want?" Zelda asked.
Mikey closed his door. "How do you know people are changing?"
Zelda looked surprised. "Do you see it too?"
"Yeah."
"I can't figure out how it's happening, but I've got this protecting me," she said, holding out the pendant hanging from her neck. "It's an anti-magic charm."
"So, it's protecting you from the effects of the wish," Mikey said.
"Wish? What wish?"
Mikey nearly gasped. Why did he say that out loud? What happened to keeping the wishing stone secret? But it was clear why he did it. Things had gotten so out of control that he was relieved that someone other than himself knew what was happening, even if that someone was Zelda.
Mikey sighed and showed Zelda the wishing stone. "It grants wishes. I made a wish last night and it sort of spun out of control. It was only supposed to be a joke on my brother. But, I guess it's not really funny anymore."
"I'll say. He's not even your brother anymore." She paused. "Can I see it?"
Mikey wasn't sure if he should let Zelda have it. She might make a wish turning everyone into cybergoths or something. Mikey really didn't know her all too well. And now he was regretting even telling her about the stone in the first place.
