As soon as school let out, Mikey started walking home, when a brand-new luxury car pulled up beside him.
"Hey, Mikey!" said a golden haired boy who rolled down the window. "Did you forget you were coming to my house today?"
Mikey looked up, and saw Wilbur Rich, whose name was almost a bad pun, as his family was one of the richest in town. With everything about the rock to think about, Mikey had indeed forgotten he had agreed to come to Wilbur's house. He and Wilbur had become good friends, but this would be the first time he visited.
"Oops!" said Mikey. "Yeah, I did. I'm sorry."
"That's okay. You can still make it, can't you?"
Mikey paused for a second. He could put the rock back after visiting Wilbur. What harm could it cause?
"Sure. Just so long as I'm home by five."
Mikey got in the car with Wilbur and they drove off. Minutes later, they drove through the gate of a house which, while not a mansion, was still the biggest Mikey had ever seen. After the chauffer had parked the car, Mikey followed Wilbur from the garage to the kitchen. In the kitchen as a tall woman, a little stern-faced, but still pretty, in a black outfit with white collar, cuffs, and a white cap.
"Hello, Master Wilbur," she said. She had a British accent.
"Hello, Rose," said Wilbur. "This is my friend Mikey. He's visiting this afternoon. Mikey, this is our kitchen maid, Rose Buck."
"I've heard Master Wilbur say nice things about you," said Rose. "Give me your jacket and I'll hang it up."
Mikey, a little surprised at the formality of the woman, handed her the jacket, forgetting the rock in the pocket. He followed Wilbur into the house, not noticing, as Rose hung the jacket up, that the rock fell out of the pocket.
