While thinking what to turn Mrs. Higgins into to punish her for kicking Pierre, Mikey remembered what Karyn had said about letting the local dogs "get familiar" with the fire hydrant that had been Sarah. He smiled as he got an idea. But a hydrant would look out of place in Mrs. Higgins backyard, so he would have to do something else.
He pointed at his naked neighbor that was still looming over the frightened dog. "Be a tree," he said with a giggle.
Mrs. Higgins suddenly looked surprised as she stood up straight with her legs together. Her arms moved upward, as her fingers began to elongate and sprout leaves. Her skin turned into bark as her legs fused together and her toes grew into the ground. "What the...?" she managed to say just before her face was absorbed into her new trunk. In just a few seconds, the naked woman had become a birch tree.
Mikey watched as Pierre sniffed at the base of the tree that had been his owner. The little dog looked at a few times, as if to see if anyone was watching. Then, he raised his leg and marked the new tree in his yard as his own.
