Luther Locklyte is the name Karyn decided to go with. It was a strange name for sure and Jon didn’t know how she came up with it, but it was definitely just the first thing in what was to be quite the interesting story.
“How come you talk about grandpa and grandma like that?” A child asked me, stopping my narration.
“Because this is a story.” I get out of my chair and squat down next to the kid. “If I were to talk about them as my mother and father, not everyone would understand who I was talking about.”
“Are these stories not real?” The little one asks. “‘Cause that’s what mommy and daddy say.”
I ruffle her hair. “Stories are as real as you make them to be. Whether it’s in your imagination or made through your own efforts, stories can be shaped to your liking.” I pause, “Now, where was I?”
“You were talking about your birth Uncle Luther.” She beams.
“Ah yes, thank you child.” I ruffle her hair once more and go back to narrating the story.
The rest of that day was probably the most hectic Jon had ever been through. After naming the little boy, he had to figure out who would take care of it and how to even explain it to the school, friends and even family. It didn’t take long before rumors started to spread throughout the whole town. People questioning how in the world a baby just popped up in such a small town as Lakeside. Some thought Karyn secretly had a child over the break and only now decided to bring him out in the open. However, that’s where Jon decided to take action for Karyn. He convinced each and every person he met that it was merely a friend of his that wanted her to watch their child for a while. Everyone believed him, but if it was because of the magical force behind him or his unwavering serious attitude throughout all this, none could say. What everyone did do was give them their best wishes to take care of a child at such young ages. It was truly something that would take up a lot of their time.
Starting that next day, Jon woke up and remembered that today was his turn to take care of Luther. He quickly got ready and was about to head out of his room, when he noticed a strange pile of dust sitting on his bedside table. Curious about how such a big pile of dust accumulated there, he ran a finger across it and realized it was much more solid that it first appeared. It then dawned on him that this is must have been what happened to the stone. Well, I guess it makes sense that it would disintegrate after that wish. Jon didn’t pay it much heed and just scooped up the remnants and placed in a bag. Maybe one day it’ll be useful to someone. He thought as he stored it away in the back of his dresser, failing to notice the faint glow of the stone's shards.
