"That's all?" replied Sarah after Zoe finished explaining.
"Why not?" wondered Zoe. "It could be fun, Sarah. I wish that when we're at the mall tonight, either of us can shop by pointing to something and saying 'I want one'. I wish that when we do this we'll have one of whatever we point at, without the original vanishing. I wish everyone else will think it's normal for us to have whatever we shopped for. Now, I wish that I was at the mall with Sarah."
Sarah and Zoe had to look away. But as soon as they did the entire room greyed out and was replaced. The smell of the air was different, it was well lit, and people were walking past them. They were at one end of the local shopping mall, near the HMV.
"Hi, Sarah!" said a voice from nearby.
Sarah recognized it. It was her friend Nicole, a brunette cheerleader in the same grade as herself.
"So what's up?" asked Nicole.
"Oh, nothing," replied Sarah. "Just shopping with Zoe."
"I don't see why you hang out with that loser," said Nicole.
"You know what?" said Sarah. "I'm still me, no matter who I'm with."
"Fine, fine," replied Nicole. "I know, you've been friends forever, yadda yadda, I was just making conversation anyway." Nicole knew better than to question Sarah any further, and Sarah knew better than to continue it. So anyway, I'll see you around...."
Meanwhile, Zoe saw a CD by The Cure that she wanted. She pointed at it and said "I want one." Magically a clear plastic bag appeared in her other hand--containing a duplicate of the CD she had just asked for. "Come on over here, I think you'll like these," she said, pointing to another row of CDs.
Sarah looked through the CDs, pointing to several and saying "I want one". Each time, another one magically appeared in her possession, and though Nicole was staring directly at her, she didn't notice anything at all.
"Well," said Zoe. "What do you think?"
"It's great!" said Sarah. "But I want to try something." She pointed at Zoe's hair and said "I want one." Instantly her own hair turned black, dyed an even darker black.
"Oh, gross," said Zoe. "On me, that looks good, but on you..."
Sarah pulled a mirror from her purse and examined her reflection. "You're right. I look like a real poser. How about you wish it back?"
A minute later, Sarah was back to normal, and the two continued to "shop". Everything went as expected--until...
