"... and I just found a rock under my pillow," explained Sarah.
"What? A rock?" asked Zoe.
The Goth girl looked rather out of place as a dark-clothed intruder in Sarah's room, but in truth, Sarah and Jon's sister were very good friends. They were only a year apart in age and had known each other since they were children, before Sarah joined the cheerleader crowd and Zoe the Goths. Needless to say, they didn't advertise their friendship much.
"Just a piece of junk!" said Sarah. "I don't even know what it was doing there."
"I think I have some idea," said Zoe. "The other day my brother got a magic rock from Grandpa. I found Grandpa's note, and I was listening outside Jon's room when he decided to wish it away."
"A magic rock?" said Sarah. "If I was Nicole I'd say that you're weird."
"Yeah," replied Zoe, "but all your friends say I'm weird anyway."
"And all your friends," said Sarah, "think cheerleading is for shallow airheads, so we're even. Anyway, I think I still have it..."
Sarah walked over to the trash can, pushed a piece of paper out of the way, and picked up the magic stone. "Here, catch," she said, throwing it to Zoe.
Zoe caught it, and looked at it. "It is the wishing stone!" she said. "Fortunately Jon only wished he and Karyn would think it was a dream... he said nothing about me!"
"You're sure about this?" said Sarah. "I mean, a real magic stone?"
"Damn straight," said Zoe. "I wish that I'd turn invisible for five seconds."
Sarah felt she had to look away for a second, but when she looked back--Zoe wasn't there! She gasped and stuttered out a "Wow!"
"See?" said Zoe's voice, from thin air. "It's really..." and then she materialized. "It's really a magic stone. But we have to be careful. The wishes can't be reversed. If I turned invisible and didn't say five seconds I'd stay that way forever, unless I found a loophole. Like wishing that I became invisible because of a magic cloak, so I could take the cloak off."
"I can just imagine the things we could do with this!" said Sarah. "So let's think up something. Maybe we could wish to go to the mall? We hardly ever do--it's too easy to meet someone who says 'what are they doing together', and there aren't a lot of things we could shop for together anyway."
"I have some better ideas," said Zoe. "How about this..."
