Just like Jon might have done in so many other stories, Sarah planned to get the stone. Her ex-mother didn't know about it, and Jon and Mikey didn't know about it... so none of them had any reason to stop her from just taking it.
"May I use your bathroom?" asked Sarah.
"I don't see what you're doing in here at all..." said Ms. McMillan.
Mikey looked at her, disappointed... usually people were nice to the Boy Scouts and their friends. "Let her!" he said.
Ms. McMillan grudgingly allowed it. Sarah immediately set off on a fake journey to the bathroom--she knew very well that the rock was nowhere near it, but she walked in the direction of the rock anyway.
Just another second, she thought... Ahh. She bent down and picked it up.
"What are you doing?" asked her ex-mother.
"Oh, nothing," replied Sarah. "I wish you'd let me have this rock."
"Of course you can take it," replied the woman. "It's just a stone."
Sarah walked in the correct direction, pretending that she guessed, or at least that she didn't want to walk up the stairs. She entered the bathroom, locked the door, sat down, and looked at the stone.
"You've been a lot of trouble," she said to the rock. "But first things first. I wish I had all my memories from before any wishes were made on me."
She had wished she knew what was going on, so she understood the limits on the stone. And the rush of knowledge to her head proved that the stone was working. The question remained... what to do? At least she was as attractive as before, though in a different way. And she didn't know if she could change back.
On the other hand... Sarah spoke her wish...
