"Hmm," said Karyn. "Then how about doing the sex change machine, like you suggested. But..."
"But?" asked Jon.
"But, it's not just sitting in the room. It's going to be an experiment, right? Well, maybe not only is it an experiment, but they also let someone test it. How about... Umm, the Sigma Epsilon Chi fraternity."
"Them? They're holding a party for all the new students come tomorrow night. And you're going to give them a sex change machine?"
"Why not? Let me borrow the stone, please..."
Jon handed Karyn the stone long enough for her to make the wish. "I wish the following wishes could all be reversed if Jon wants to wish them back. First, I wish that the machinery in this room would become a sex change machine, that was designed by scientists in this building. I also wish that after winning a contest at the end of last year, the Sigma Epsilon Chi fraternity got the privilege of testing the new invention, and some people from there are going to take it back to their house, where they'll set it up long before tomorrow's party."
Jon and Karyn felt themselves having to look away, and magically, when they looked back the machinery in the room was rather... different. There was a chunk of metal and plastic the size of a small television set, with some dials, buttons, and displays on its surface. Two wires from it extended to a sheet of plastic a yard wide, which was folded up next to the device. The plastic had a few words printed on it: "Select options, stand here, and press button on main device."
The door suddenly opened and two male college students walked in, to take the machine back to their fraternity.
"Hey, what is this thing?" asked Jon.
"It's... hard to believe" said one of the guys. "But everyone will know by tomorrow." He handed Jon a piece of bright green paper with the time and location of the party printed on it.
"Karyn," said Jon, "what do you think will happen? A fraternity with free use of a sex change machine? They could very well start using it now before the party."
"I don't know! The whole point is to find out, right? And you can always wish it back later."
