As soon as they had stepped through the doorway, they heard a loud "THUMP!" sound again, and the door disappeared just as fast as it had arrived.
Karyn and Jon looked up awestruck at the room they were now in.
It was a room full to bursting of clothes. Floor to ceiling, hundreds of shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, leotards, scarves, shoes and dozens more types of clothing that Jon didn't even know the names for.
"Wow" Karyn said in awe, "Must be some sort of costume shop or-"
"Karyn. What are you wearing?" Karyn looked down and saw she was wearing a tight red corset that seemed to make her boobs seem 2 sizes larger with a large floorlength poofy skirt. Black gloves went up past her elbows, and she could feel that she was wearing incredibly tall heels. Her face was heavily made-up and atop her head sat a small black top hat.
Before she could react, a door at the end of the room slammed open and a small woman stuck her head in. "AH! Te voilà ." The woman ran towards Karyn and grabbed her by the wrist. In a French accent she said "Karyn! What are you doing in here? Let's go let's go!"
Karyn looked back at Jon with a dumbfounded expression. Jon hurried out after them.
It looked as though they were backstage at some sort of theater. It was a large wooden room with dozens of vanity tables stretched along the wall. Giant red curtains divided the room up into a stage area and a prep area.
A dozen or so women were rushing back and forth in the prep area, all dressed up the same way as Karyn.
Jon walked over to the curtain and look behind it. His eyes widened.
Hundreds of men were sitting noisily in a crowded amphitheater. Loud music was playing and topless women were walking up and down the aisles serving drinks. Projected on the curtain was a picture of a Burlesque Troupe, and Karyn was one of them.
Jon hurried back to the prep area. The small woman had sat her in a chair at one of the vanity tables and was fussing about with her hair.
"Karyn!" Jon hissed, "Do you know where we are?"
Karyn looked at him sheepishly, "Paris?"
"No! Not ... Well, actually, I don't know.. We could be in Paris. But no! I mean it looks like you're about to go onstage with some sort of erotic burlesque troupe. There's gotta be a few hundred horny guys out there."
"Oui!" Said the hairdresser, "And she will do great!"
Karyn smiled nervously at Jon. "I did say I wanted an adventure, right?"
"You're gonna do it?" Jon took a step back, a little shocked.
"Why not?" She looked thoughtfully for a moment. "Yea, I think I can do it. Somehow, I think I know all the moves. It should be fun!"
"Really? You're sure? We could just use the necklace again and get out of here"
The woman chimed in, "Oh, ze necklace must go! Take it off"
Karyn undid the clasp and handed it to Jon, smiling, "I'll be fine. What's the worst that could happen?"
