The phone rang. Jon set down the vegetables he was prepping for dinner and began to wipe his hands dry on his dress. He caught himself halfway through, thinking 'Why'd I just dirty my dress?'
He picked up a towel to finish before grabbing the phone.
"Gibson Residence, may I ask whose calling?"
A surprised Karyn yelled on the other end "Oh my god! Jon is that you? I can't believe it, it worked!"
"Hey Karyn, slow down. What happened? What worked?"
Karyn's voice turned uneasy. "Jon, are you ok? The Necklace. It did work right? Why do you sound so funny?"
Jon touched the necklace uneasily and tried to figure out what Karyn was talking about. A quick tinge of pain shot though his temple.
He remembered being at the mall with Karyn earlier today, going to some weird shop. It was right around the time he was out collecting vegetables in the garden. The neighbor, Mr. Morgan had come by to ask about borrowing a rake, Jon had led him to the garden shed out back when Karyn had pointed out the weird shop. She had just finished teasing him about how his eyes kept drifting toward the nearby Victoria Secret while eating at the food court. The shed had been a mess though, and it took a while before they found the rake. Jon had just gone back inside to finish prepping the veggies when he had put on the necklace next to Karyn.
He felt dizzy and light headed. So confused. He sat down.
What was going on? He was at home all day. Why did he remember being at the mall with Karyn?
He remembered the taste of his Food Court Pizza, the smell of the water from the fountain where they had tossed their change in, the feel of his unintended boner straining against his jeans when he saw a certain mannequin...
The necklace warmed slightly on his neck. It was activating again.
It was different this time though. Instead of feeling everything just fading away slowly, Jon heard a crack of Thunder, and everything went black. Jon fell backwards through a chair that was no longer there. As if he had been thrown off a cliff, in the dead of night, Jon continued to fall backwards, speeding up, wind rushing through his ears, with no sign of slowing down.
Just as Jon began to worry what would happen when he hit something, it stopped. Jon blinked, looking where he was.
