Jon moved over to the jewelry case that Karyn was looking through, when something caught his eye. It was a fairly plain but gaudy gold chain necklace. Jon thought it would be perfect for his costume idea, dressing up as that one guy from Jersey Shore. And it was only five bucks. Jon picked up the necklace from the rack where it hung.
"Ah, that's an interesting piece," the old man said.
"What's so interesting about it?" Jon asked.
"I call it the Necklace of Infinite Possibilities. Whoever wears the necklace is supposed to be able to travel to other places at will! Merely put it around your neck, and think of a place you'd like to be."
"Supposed to?"
"Well, its magic was damaged long ago," the man said "It has a habit of doing completely random things. That's why it's on clearance! So what do you say?"
Jon and Karyn didn't believe a word, but Jon paid for it anyway. It was a steal at five bucks, and it would still be a useful prop. As they left the store, Karyn began to laugh.
"God, what a weirdo," she said.
"I know! What planet was he from?" Jon chuckled.
"Why don't you try it out?" Karyn said.
"Yeah, OK." Jon smiled and put the necklace around his neck, then said in a mocking voice, "O Great Magic Necklace, take me home!" He began to think about his home, and his family.
Karyn and Jon started laughing, but Jon suddenly stopped. He was getting dizzy. Everything around him got kind of shimmery.
"Jon, what's wrong?" Karyn asked. Before Jon could respond, his image faded away. Karyn's eyes went wide. He had disappeared.
Jon quickly recovered from the dizziness, and suddenly noticed that he was at home. But something wasn't quite right...
