"Nope. There's more. You see, I know why we're actually here." Karyn smiled wickedly.
"And that is?" Jon didn't like where this was going. He knew what it meant when Karyn got that look on her face.
"Well, like I said. There's a war on. And the humans and elves have decided to form an alliance." Karyn paused. She seemed to be struggling not to laugh.
"And what does that have to do with us?"
"We're here to seal that alliance. By marrying you to a human noble!"
Jon froze. His throat felt tight, his breath quickened. But it wasn't just nerves, though the growing tightness in his stomach spoke to the contrary. "This...this is intolerable!" And the prim, pouty, near-shriek of outrage that issued from his mouth only fueled his anger. Karyn sniggered. That didn't help either. "What are you laughing at?! I am stuck here, in this ridiculous fantasy artist's wet dream body, treated like a fucking princess, in one short morning being more humiliated than I have ever been in my life! And you laugh!" He had to gasp for breath after his tirade.
For her part, Karyn looked sheepish. "I'm sorry Allaria. I guess I didn't think about what this must be like for you. Still...you have to admit, from outside your perspective, it's probably pretty funny." Jon pouted. "Besides...you're taking this too seriously. We're only here for seven days. We probably won't even get far enough in the plot for it to come up, like, at all. And if it does..." She grinned again. "At least you have your pick of nobles. Just go for the one that's most likely to be gay!"
Jon was fuming again after her "apology". But before he could offer a reply, the doors to the hall swung open with a crash.
