"Well, obviously, you're a princess," Karyn began. "but it turns out there's some kind of war going on, and I'm the leader of some kind of mercenary company hired to protect you! How cool is that?"
"Very cool." Jon replied icily. He was less than thrilled to see Karyn so satisfied with her role when he clearly wasn't. He knew it was a bit petty, but he couldn't help it. "What else?"
"Well, we're both elves, but we aren't in an elven kingdom. This is Kornost, which is the capital of the human kingdom. No one knows why we came here, but there's tons of rumors about it."
"Is that all you could find out?" Jon was a little dissappointed. Sure, this wasn't what he'd envisioned when he first used the bookmark, but it couldn't hurt to know more about their situation.
"Nope. There's more. You see, I know why we're actually here." Karyn smiled wickedly.
