Laying across the top of the pedestal was a glowing, ivory, recurve bow purfled in rare metals.
"That is quite a beautiful bow, Dara, can you use it," Jon asked Karyn, still miffed that he couldn't say her name.
"It's got a string and an arrow rest. I can use it," she affirmed. As she said it, she picked up the bow. The glow died down as she did so, leaving them in very close to total darkness. Jon suspected that they would have considered it total darkness if they were still human.
"Let us go back upstairs to look at it more closely," Jon said.
Somewhat bemused, and still looking carefully at it, Karyn agreed. As Jon was walking towards the stairs, though, Karyn stayed where she was. As Jon looked back, she drew the string to her cheek.
"This doesn't look like it'd be especially tough to draw, but it's much heavier than my normal bow."
"Well, you can try it out later. Come on, Dara," he said, hoping hearing her new name would snap her out of it a bit.
As they got back to the top of the stairs...
