Jon sighed, gripping the bookmark with delicate, long nailed fingers. He had been looking forward to being able to live the somewhat cliched swords and sorcery tale the novel contained, but the bookmark (Which now possessed images of both Allaria and Azgrock with the title "Princess Allaria and the Troll King")had taken that from him when it changed him into the heroine of the story. Now he had to think of something that would keep the coming week from turning from "disturbing and unpleasant" to "utterly life scarring".
He really wanted to keep the same setting if possible, he'd already decided that. He had enough problems without being an Elven Princess in ancient Rome or something like that. However, the fairy tale-esque setting of the current story was completely out of the question, for obvious reasons.
He thought of the story lines of all the books he'd owned. He had several that might work, but not many that were guaranteed to work. Anything with an adventure type story could well land them with the same problem. He could try a darker story that didn't feature any damsel in distress situations, but then it became possible something worse would happen. He also had several novels that were more humorous, but they would be very unpredictable by nature. The very few romance novels he possessed would be more sure, but....
He thought of Allaria's betrothed, the handsome Prince Haldrid, and shuddered. Although I suppose it's marginally better than Karyn..., He reminded himself. He just couldn't make up his mind.
"'Ey, Allaria, what's takin' so long?" Came Karyn's gruff new voice. Jon noticed that she could no longer say his real name, just as she'd predicted.
Jon explained the situation to Karyn.
"And that is why we cannot use this book." A sudden thought struck him. "I do not suppose you would choose for me, Azgrock? I cannot make up my mind."
"Er...yeah, sure." Karyn tried to take the bookmark from Jon, but found her huge three fingered hand wasn't quite dexterous enough. She gave a frustrated grunt and dropped her hands to her side, until Jon took her hand, and with Karyn's palm open upward, gently but firmly placed the bookmark into it.
Her hand is so soft, She thought suddenly. No, I shouldn't think of Jon like that. I shouldn't think of any woman like that. Not that Jon's a woman...er..crap.
She quickly turned her attention to Jon's bookshelf. What to choose?
