Bambi didn't move, and the conversation continued in the next dressing room.

"I still need to go by the cosmetics counter," Alex said.

"Are you gonna take another hour sampling eyeshadow?" Jessie asked.

"Hey, maybe if you took more time with makeup --"

"Yeah, I wish you didn't have to spend any time doing makeup."

"At least I --" began Alex, but then she said, "Oh, my God, Jess, turn around."

"What?"

"Turn around and look at your face in the mirror."

There was a pause of a few seconds, and then Jessie exclaimed, "What the hell?!"

"It just suddenly appeared on your face!" proclaimed Alex.

"What do you mean, it just suddenly appeared?!"

"I mean it just -- it took about half a second, and --"

"Jeez, it's not even coming off!"

There was another pause, and then Alex said, "The wish!"

"What?" said an obviously confused Jessie. "I wished that you --"

"But you got it!" exclaimed Alex. "Maybe it's like an 'I'm rubber, you're glue' situation. You say 'you,' and it turns into 'I.'"

"But we've just been making wishes," Jessie pointed out. "And we were saying 'I' -- why didn't that turn into 'you,' then?"

"How should I know? Maybe you just got the actual wishing power right now. Maybe we only get the one wish."

"Oh, my God, I hope not," said Jessie exasperatedly.

Somehow I realized that Bambi thought this was getting boring with all the talking. I dared to hope she'd leave the dressing room finally, thinking it could be dangerous if she stayed and the girls figured the whole thing out and started making wishes in earnest.

"Well, it's not the worst thing that could have happened," said Alex reassuringly.

"But I look like a slut!" Jessie practically wailed. "This is about as much makeup as anyone would ever wear!"

Bambi finally decided to leave, walking comfortably on her extremely high-heeled shoes. Once we got out of the dressing room, it really became obvious how short she was now, even with the shoes.

And then I realized I was walking right past the room the girls were in, so I could hear Alex say, "Fine, I'll try something. I wish you..."
