Sarah smiled at Mikey as he slipped the purse over his shoulder. Sarah picked up the shopping backs and turned towards the exit.
“Ok honey.” She said to Mikey. “Let’s go home.” Mikey nodded and followed closely behind Sarah. As they walked Sarah was lost in deep thought. She was thinking about the boy’s mother, what was her name? Oh yes, Linda.
“How could she just abandon him like that?” She thought to herself. She looked over towards Mikey who to her surprise, didn’t seem to be that bothered by the fact that his mother had abandoned him. In fact, he seemed to be clinging to Sarah.
“Where are we going?” Mikey asked bringing Sarah out of her thoughts and back to the present. Sarah, confused, looked in the direction that they were going. They were heading towards her house.
“Home.” Sarah told him. She thought that that much was obvious but Mikey just looked confused.
“Aren’t we going in the wrong direction?” Mikey asked. Sarah was just about to answer when she heard a noise coming from her handbag. She reached in and pulled out her new phone. Seeing the generations-old iPhone was going to take some getting used to. As she looked at the caller id, Sarah already missed her expensive phone.
“Hello?” Sarah asked nervously. The phone said that the caller was Zoe but she didn’t know anyone named Zoe.
“Oh hey mom. Just letting you know that Athena and I will be late home tonight. There’s something at the occult store that Athena wants to buy.” And with that, Zoe hung up leaving Sarah even more confused.
“Mom!” Sarah thought to herself. “Do I look like anyone’s mom?” She looked down at herself and surprised herself. With the purple sweater and capris that she was currently wearing, she supposed that she did. She certainly didn’t look like the high school cheerleader that she was supposed to be.
Again, Sarah thought back to Linda and how she had been wearing her short shorts and then, right in front of her, Linda had somehow switched tops with Sarah. Things were slowly beginning to click into place.
With a frown and a huff. Sarah grabbed Mikey’s arm and started walking in the opposite direction. Today was Monday, and Sarah had a feeling that she knew exactly where this Linda woman would be.
