Kyla Leeson sat in her computer chair, swinging her legs. As usual, she had finished her homework early and had settled down to double-check every answer. In her lap, she held her pet hamster, Ginger. The chubby mammal was her primary friend and confidante, and that was how Kyla preferred it.
The others at school considered her an oddball, and she embraced the solitude it brought her. It left her with plenty of time to concentrate on her studies and various hobbies. Thus, she never complained when they called her fat, even though she knew the title was unjustified. She considered herself mildly plump at most.
Suddenly, she felt a shiver run through her. Peering about, she could have sworn the air around her had moved on its own even though the window was closed.
"What was that, Ginger?" She asked her pet. Kyla had long ago developed the habit of talking to Ginger whenever they were alone. The hamster responded by scratching her ear with a forepaw.
Then, something caught her attention. On the wall above her bed hung a sports banner. Needless to say, it struck her as odd. She had never been into sports.
"Now where on earth did that come from?"
Hamster in hand, she got up and approached the banner. Prominently emblazoned on its face was the stylized shape of a bull's head divided between blue and red. On the blue side, a single white star suggested the bull's eye.
