We had enough jotted down in out grimoires to join the mage guild. Their mightiest spells change one substance into another, call meteors down from the sky, or open up portals to other worlds. While wizards did not derive their magic from their blood, they still needed some level of mana to even begin to see the magic weave. Xavier could see it just fine. He could not interact with it in order to bend it to his will. That had to be an extremely frustrating position to be in. Just as interested in the arcane and magic as his mother. Just as inept and powerless as his father. He was his right in the middle of it. It strained his relationship with both of his parents. His father was just unable to join them in anything magical. His mother was demanding of him at first, but then she just gave up on him. It was not that she did not really love him, but she gave gave him space and never invited him to her study anymore. The only way to join her was to get magic from somewhere. That mean that he needed to become a warlock. Warlocks are seekers of knowledge that lies hidden in the fabric of the multiverse.

Through pacts made with mysterious beings of supernatural power, warlocks unlock magical effects both subtle and spectacular. Drawing on the very ancient knowledge of beings such as fey nobles, demons, devils, hags, and alien entities of the Far Realm, warlocks piece together arcane secrets to bolster their own power. It was exactly what our human guest, Xavier Watkins, was basing all of his hopes. I would not dissuade him. I also wanted to see what would happen with this. Sometimes the mutual relationship between warlock and patron is like that of a cleric and a deity, though the beings that serve as patrons for warlocks are not gods. A warlock might lead a cult dedicated to a demon prince, an archdevil, or an utterly alien entity—beings not typically served by clerics. More often, though, the arrangement is similar to that between a master and an apprentice. The warlock learns and grows in power, at the cost of services performed on the patron's behalf. The magic bestowed on a warlock ranges from alterations to their warlock's being (seeing in darkness or reading languages) to spells.

Unlike bookish wizards, warlocks supplement their magics with a facility at hand-to-hand combat. They are comfortable in light armor and know how to use some simple weapons. This was pretty good if he wanted to be a good adventurer like he claimed. The strongest of warlocks could master 5th class magic. Nowhere near the 10th class magic of the wizards or sorcerers. With a staff or bow in hand, he could still do really heroic things. Things that we could benefit from since Marantyz would be his patron. All that was going to go unsaid. I looked at Marantyz and said "You can proceed with the contract ceremony." He nodded his head and looked at Xavier. He pulled the human closer to him as he moved towards the bed. Xavier ended up straddling the incubus as the fell on the bed. Xavier yelped in surprise. Marantyz chuckled out loud. "See!? It doesn't have to be all that serious. Relax. Tell me what you want." he said. "I want to be a warlock that can make my parents proud. I want to be a good adventurer. I'm willing to do whatever you need." Xavier told him. A seal appeared on his leg.
