That reaction really put me on the backfoot. "Is something wrong?" I asked. Harriet blinked, probably realizing that she was getting too worked up. "No, it's not wrong. It is just that... it's not every day that someone with a clear path to becoming an alpha would choose not to take it." she said. Brent nodded. "I just don't want to have to deal with all the things that omega have to deal with. It sucks from what I've read." Harry said "Omegas need the help because they can't do things on their own. That's not the problem. It's just that many alphas are pretty mean to them." I frowned. I highly doubted that the game would program such hard debuffs to the point the omegas became totally incapable of doing things. It must have been on my face. Gerald said "C'mon Sunny! You saw how Dustin acts towards him. I don't want him being taken advantage of someone like that." "I don't either. Doesn't his own mother work at a bank even though she is an omega? If she can hold a job, I seriously doubt that all the omegas are as retarded as you seem to be describing them." I clarified. They frowned.
Harriet
I scoffed. "What?" I asked. "Well, I know some unmated omegas that work at the job I have. It's not a matter or whether or not they can do the job. Rather, they do have needs and that makes them unfit for some roles in society at large." Brent said diplomatically. Harriet just nodded and said "I personally think that omegas should have a bit more privileges. However, that is far from the topic at hand. You could easily avoid the pitfalls of being an omega by choosing to devout yourself towards becoming an alpha." I was not too sure about this, but arguing was not worth it. "I'll have to think about it. In the meantime, we should celebrate our success. We did great and helped out our friends. No one is going to deny that we let Sheldon have a good showing at the rally. After today, there's no reason for his dad to take his balls away." I said. "As long as we keep practicing, he won't have many problems." Gerald said. Brent raised an eyebrow. "Practicing? What do you mean?" he asked. Gerald flinched. After explaining what had happened, their parents were very upset. "Stop that!" he demanded.
Harriet was also incensed. "I know that you are very close friends, but I don't want you to risk your futures for your friends. If he becomes a beta, but you boys become a pair of omegas, that would not be fair. There are 2 of you and only 1 of him. Even if he chose to claim you, the other would still be in a very precarious position." she explained. That put a damper on whatever cheerful mood was left. We ate the rest of the meal in silence. When Brent and Harriet were done with their food, they called for the waiter. They asked for the check and containers for the remainder of their kids' food. Once they paid and the food was packed up, they got up. "Thank you joining us. It was nice to meet you. We have to be going now." Brent said. I nodded and said "Of course. Thank you for allowing me to tag along." Harriet nodded and said "I'm sure the boys will see you on Monday." They then left. The twins waved at me. They could tell that their parents were being awkward. I was not going to say anything. It was their parents. I was going to do what I felt was right. That was the way that I play.
