In the basement of the school, where the scientists had set up shop, Rebecca Fine and Ruby Grant sat, eating takeout.

"Where's Michaels?" Rebecca asked.

"Some of the tests came back. He went to check on them."

"I can guess what he is going to find," she said. "If their physical situation is anything like their mental situation..."

"Which is?"

Rebecca put an image up on the screen. "This is Karyn Black. Her...let's say donor...was a young boy." She started a video. "They don't know we have the whole room wired. But, watch the body language. She's fidgeting a lot. And her friend...whose donor is the mother of the boy...keeps exhibiting maternal behavior." she skipped to marked places to demonstrate that. "The age old debate of nature vs nurture."

"But acting like a kid, or a mother isn't genetic."

"There is still a lot we don't know about the human mind and body. And this whole situation is new to say the least. We don't even have an explanation for how genitals can just magically swap. They all also said they woke up in a different place...I wish we'd had a camera available for that."

Ruby looked at her. "What exactly did you do before this?"

"I really can't tell you exactly, but let's just say that our government does need people with a background in psychology and a certain...flexibility in accomplishing missions."

Doctor Michaels rushed in. "It's spreading," he said. "Just like we suspected. Where the new DNA encounters the old DNA...it doesn't overwrite it...it is like the old DNA tries to become more like the new. It adopts parts of it. We need to reexamine the entire group tomorrow."
