The cube still sat there, and didn't appear to be doing much of anything. But something about it was making Adam uneasy, and judging by the look on Jeff's face, he wasn't alone.

"Something's wrong here." said Adam.

"Yeah, you called me mom," Jeff said, "That can't be right..."

"But you are my mom!"

"Of course I am, dear. And you're my daughter. Wait..."

"No, we're friends from work. Ugh! This is, like, so confusing. It's like I'm remembering two things at once but I can't figure out which one is right!"

"Is it that cube? Something's messing with our heads, man. Did you finish all your homework?"

"Mom! This isn't the time to worry about that!" Besides, he only had like one assignment, it wouldn't be that hard.

"Shit dude, you're right." He looked around the room. "Of course! Look, Adam: we're still in my apartment. Look at our bodies. We're two dudes in our thirties. That's who we really are. All we need to do to remember what's right is just look around!"

"You're right! We got this." Adam was suddenly relieved. He sure didn't want to be this confused at school tomorrow. Jeff was always good at figuring things out. He was a pretty great mom. "Wait, Jeff. Where did those flowers come from?"

Jeff looked at the bright pink flowers arranged in the vase on his coffee table. "What do you mean, sweetie? I cut those lilies from the garden this morning. They smell lovely and add a great pop of color to the room, I think."

"They really do," Adam agreed, "But this is an apartment! You don't have a garden!"

"Well where else would I get them from? No... you're right! That doesn't make sense." He looked around again. "Everything else still looks normal." He looked over at his co-worker and nearly jumped off the couch. "Adam! Your clothes! When did you put that outfit on?!"

Adam looked down at his tartan skirt, black tights, and clingy cardigan. He shrugged, "Um, this is my uniform. What else would I wear to school?"

"But you came here in a suit! From work!"

"Ew. Like the one you're wearing? You look ridiculous, by the way."

Jeff tugged at his tie, and suddenly looked uncomfortable. "What! Where did this come from? Hang on, let me go upstairs and get changed."

"Wait, mom! We're still in your apartment! No upstairs, remember?"

"Right. My goodness, this is all so confusing. Maybe we should talk it out, help each other remember."

"Good idea, man. I'll go first. Ok, my name is Adam Wells, I'm 16 years old and a sophomore at Lake Pointe High School. My bff's name is Ashley and we're totes twinsies even though we're like not even related. No! That's not right. Let me try again. My name is Jessica Coleman, but everyone calls me Jessi. I'm a senior accountant at Tenenbaum Industries. Wait, no... I won't be a senior for two more years. Hang on... auugggghhh! Why is this so hard! Why don't you try?"

Jeff looked nervous, but took a deep breath. "Ok, here goes. My name is Alexis Coleman. I'm a thirty-five year old man, mother of two beautiful children, and married to the most wonderful man on earth. I've worked at Tenenbaum Industries for five years. No - ten years. As a beauty consultant! That's right. Right?"

Adam gulped. It seemed hopeless. He took one more look at the cube on the table. Maybe it had some sort of answer...
