Jennifer awoke to exotic birds chirping, sunlight filtering through the trees, the smell of salt, the crash of waves on the beach, and the comforting feeling of her body wrapped around her husband. Except it wasn’t her husband. A shriek of alarm from Jennifer startled the strange man causing him to tumble out of bed onto the floor.
“What the hell Jen. I was trying to sleep. It isn’t even time to go for the brewery tour.”
“Who are you?!” What the hell is this brewery nonsense? And how do you know my name!?”
“It’s me, David. Your husband” The strange man responded. Now that he was standing he clearly resembled Daniel and his 2 female iterations. The major differences from Daniel were that he was a bit shorter, had a bushy beard in place of Daniel’s preferred clean shave, and the man had a bit of a beer belly. Maybe that had something to do with the talk of a ‘brewery.’
“Uh, we were going to see the Samson Brewery, the first brewery to be established on Maui.”
“Oh you and your beer,” Jennifer said fondly before clamping a hand over her mouth. She didn’t know this man but for a moment she did. Enough to make that statement. She had to figure out what was going on. So she asked a question.
“Wait, we're in Hawaii?!”
“Of course we are, that’s where we wanted to take our honeymoon.”
By this point, Jennifer had slid out of bed and was slowly backing away from the strange man in pajamas. “Daniel and I were supposed to go to Niagara falls, then Dana and I were in San Francisco then you were Dani then Dana again then Daniel. Please tell me you know what is happening!?”
“What- Oh god, I think I remember Daniel and Dana shared that leather jacket that their father had, and Dani had the blue hair that you loved. Jesus. You’re gonna replace me aren’t ya-”
“-No, I’m not doing any of this I swear, I just want it to stop-”
“It’s gonna happen again, probably any time now. I love yo-” The world stuttered for a moment, and in David’s place stood someone else entirely. The only similarity was the love they had for Jen and a wedding ring around their finger.
