Jon gulped. Saying the words was harder than he thought. The very idea still freaked him out, thinking about how badly, realistically, he'd screwed up the town. "You, uh... you've all got the same body. I mean, below the neck. Only difference I can see is you, Karyn, your wish. Even the same clothes, except they're too small on you."

Karyn stared at Jon, slack-jawed. "What are you talking about? Jon, you know we've all volunteered to be like this. Everyone in the town above thirteen voted on it, the new government grant program, remember? Participate in a town-wide scientific study and the whole town gets money for improving the streets and schools and all that. Or..." she trailed off, eyes lighting up, "did the wish make all that up?"

"I... I don't know. I'm the only one who remembers reality as it is. We can only assume I recognize all of it and I can just be a guide to what's changed," he said, distracted by his own thoughts. If the wish had made this a government study surely it could be fixed. He wasn't sure what the purpose of such a change was or why he seemed to be left out of it; what would happen to him were he found to be normal? He shook his head. "Yeah... let's just keep it like that and ride this out. If it gets to be too much we can think of a solution with the stone but you're okay with this for now, right? I mean, you didn't even know something was wrong."

Karyn nodded, though she still looked worried. "Okay, Jon, if you say so. Gotta get to class but I'll tell you the details of the program later."

He nodded in return and hurried out of the room toward his homeroom, the noise of his stiletto heels on the tile masked by dozens of identical sounds from student and teacher alike all around him.
