Sunday passed by relatively quickly, and before Jonchelle knew it, it was Monday morning and she was up and getting ready for school.

Based on her experiences over the weekend, she had set her alarm an hour earlier than usual. She had also decided to get into the habit of picking her clothes out the night before which saved her some time. Normally, she would have just chosen any old shirt and a pair of jeans, but now, actual thought had to go into what she wore.

So she grabbed her clothes that she had hung over a chair and her bathrobe and headed out to the bathroom, which she shared with her siblings. Out of the three of them, Jonchelle was sure that she was the only one awake, but she could hear movement from her parents’ room. That must have meant that her mom was up.

Getting up an hour earlier meant that she also had some time to shave her legs without getting disturbed by her brother. After the shower, she went over to the mirror to apply her makeup. Once her vanity table arrived, it would be much easier, but for now, she had to do her makeup in the bathroom.

Heading back to her bedroom, she caught her mother exiting hers. She was already dressed.

“Morning honey,” she greeted her daughter softly, trying to avoid waking up her husband.

“Morning, Mom,” Jonchelle replied, grinning a little. “Now I know why girls always take so long to get ready!” she joked. Mom chuckled and nodded.

“I know… When this is over, I swear that I’ll never complain about Linda making us late again.” Jonchelle giggled softly as she continued towards her room. It was still taking her a while to get used to the fact that she had to turn left and not right out of the bathroom.

Hanging her robe up on her door, Jonchelle walked over to where she currently kept her jewelry. She only had a small selection but knew that girls like Sarah McMillan probably had dozens and she wondered if hers would ever get that big. Selecting a cute necklace that had a heart shaped pendant and some matching earrings, Jonchelle looked at herself in the mirror and decided that she was ready.

Mom had some coffee going and was setting the table ready for breakfast by the time Jonchelle came down. There were also some signs of life, finally, from the other members of the family as they heard the shower from her parents’ bathroom going.

“Wow, Mom! You look amazing,” Jonchelle declared as she sat down at the table. Mom smiled. She wore an elegant red dress with three-quarter sleeves, coupled with a thin black belt. On her feet she wore a pair of shiny black two-inch heels.

“Thanks, honey. You look great as well,” she complimented, gesturing to Jonchelle’s outfit consisting of a lavender cropped tank top and a purple tartan pleated skirt. Over the tank top, Jonchelle wore a white fluffy faux fur coat, and on her feet she wore a pair of lavender sneakers.

“You’re really starting to get the hang of this, aren’t you?” Mom asked as Jonchelle sat down and helped herself to some breakfast.

“Uh-huh... I can’t take all the credit though, I’ve had some help from Vanessa.”

“You two seem to be spending a lot of time together.” Mom observed. Jonchelle nodded.

“Yeah, with Karyn being so distant regarding our resolution, Vanessa was the one who stepped in and helped fill the void, as it were. She’s actually going through her own thing, right, and it just so happens that everyone else is doing the same thing.”

“Oh?”

Jonchelle looked at her mom, wondering if she should tell her. She decided to.

“She’s trans,” Jonchelle explained, proceeding to tell her everything that Vanessa had told her. As she did so the rest of the family convened at the table. Dad came in first, wearing a three piece suit. He was lucky that the law firm he worked for had decided to simply reassign him, based on his new personality.

“Well I think that you two look great together.”

“Who does?” Dad asked as he reached for a mug of coffee.

“Jonchelle and Vanessa.”

Dad paused as he tried to remember who Vanessa was and then nodded. “Yeah, you two are hanging out a lot.” Mom and Jonchelle shared a glance and smiled.

“Anyway,” Dad began, looking at his watch. “I’d better get going.”

Mom looked at him. “Already? Without any breakfast?”

“Yeah, the boss wants us to start early so that she can introduce us to our new roles.” Mom nodded.

“Makes sense. You’re all probably going to get new schedules as well,” she added, turning to look at Jonchelle.

“Uh-huh... I’m hoping that I get the same classes as Vanessa,” Jonchelle replied, knowing full well that, thanks to her wish, she would.
