"Karyn!" Sarah's voice came from behind her.

"Sarah?" Karyn already knew from her phone that her relationship with Sarah was different in this reality, but that didn't stop her from being shocked seeing her coming to her as if she was a friend.

"You okay? You look like you've just seen a ghost." Sarah asked with a giggle. There was no trace of malice on her face. It seemed as if she was genuinely talking to a friend, but maybe she was in this new reality.

Karyn wasn't used to seeing her like that. She couldn't remember a time when Sarah talked to her without being a bitch.

As she didn't know what to say, she just continued staring at her and remarked a few things by doing so. She looked like she wore less make-up than before, still enough to look stunning, but Karyn could tell some part of her face looked more natural. Her clothes had changed a little too, and while nobody could call them conservative, her skirt seemed a little lower than before and her shirt didn't show much cleavage. The more shocking thing for Karyn, though, was her shoes. It was only a pair of sneakers, and while they were quite girly, she couldn't remember a time other than when she had her cheerleader uniform on where Sarah didn't wear high heels.

Sarah began to look concerned. "Are you alright? You seem really out of it today."

Karyn shook her head to help her concentrate. "Yeah, just... trouble sleeping last night." It technically wasn't a lie. "It'll pass, don't worry."

"Well, if you say so... Remember you can always skip class if you don't feel better. I know you don't like it, but it's needed sometime."

Karyn once again didn't know what to respond. She didn't know how she would normally respond in this new reality, so she didn't, only nodding her head slowly.

"So, have you considered coming back with the cheerleader next year?"

"What?!" The question had came out of nowhere and Karyn couldn't suppress her exclamation. Sarah wanted her to be a cheerleader, but not only that, she had been one before!

"Come on! I know you wanted to concentrate on your studies and all that but we only have a year of high school left. With your brain, I'm sure you can have good grades while being a cheerleader."

"But... I can't... I..." It was too much information at once and Karyn wasn't able to process them.

"Please! The other girls and I miss you." Sarah finally said with a smile.

"I..." Karyn knew she would have to give an answer. She took a deep breath, which probably looked weird to Sarah, but she needed it right now. "I'll think about it."

The smile on Sarah grew larger, like a little girl seeing her presents at Christmas. "It wasn't a 'no'! That's progress in my book!"

Karyn mentally cursed. She didn't know if refusing would have seemed weird to Sarah or not, so she didn't, but it seemed her answer was taken as a 'soon to be yes'. "I didn't say 'yes'." She tried to clarify, "Don't get too excited about it."

"I know! But there is a change it could become a 'yes'" Sarah was giggling excitedly, which looked really weird to Karyn who was used to the haughty Sarah. It was rare before the wish to see her express more than a smile or a small laugh, but now, she was almost jumping up and down.

"Don't get your hopes up! I'll tell you later." Karyn needed to get away from Sarah a moment. She was feeling more tired from this small conversation than from her restless night. "I have to see Jon before class. I'll see you later."
