Meanwhile, Jon was meeting up with Karyn at his locker.
"You find anything?" He asked.
"Nothing. Hopefully, nobody will find it."
"Yeah. I don't know if I could handle it if somebody took away my Barbies," Jon said as he pulled a Ballerina Barbie out of his locker and clutched it against his chest.
"Now Jon, what did your mother say about bringing toys to school?"
"But it's Ballerina Barbie, Karyn. She's my favorite."
"Well, put it away. We've got to get to geometry class."
"Oh, alright," he said, gently placing the doll in his Dora the Explorer backpack. "As long as you'll play Barbies with me after school."
"Sure. I have to babysit you anyway."
"Cool. Can we play dressup too?"
"As long as you keep clean the dress you're wearing now."
Jon looked down at the pale pink dress, white tights, and black Mary-Janes he was wearing and smiled.
"Oh, I'll be extra careful. This is my favorite dress, after all."
And with that, they went to geometry class, barely noticing that Steve Zimmer and his friends were laughing at something.
