What was the explanation for why they don’t think they’re both already pregnant? They had unprotected heterosexual sex each way, with each of them the female at least once. It seems to me most likely they would both be pregnant. They didn’t wish for any temporary contraception measures to be in place over them, right?
A question for you bigbustgazer. Despite your username, I’m rather convinced you are female. Every bit of this does not seem like something written by a male. The characters and motivations were extremely female. Jon being overly preoccupied with his feelings and whether they were real or counterfeit and put in place by the stone 3 steps back despite exercising his free will and making decisions and changing his mind several times on his own with no influence from the stone. He plainly thinks like a girl and did throughout the story. And a real man would know peeing with morning wood isn’t feasible if he leans against a wall a certain way, it simply can’t be done, the prostate literally cuts off flow from the bladder until the erection is mostly gone and a man would have known that. The whole story struck me as something written by a woman who is not as knowledgeable about men as she thinks she is. Just wondering out of curiosity, feel free to ignore this question if you don’t want to say what you are in real life.
It also seems pretty weird to me how preoccupied they were with gender and who was what. Jon insisting he was still a man, Karyn insisting she wasn’t into girls (and is in deep denial), when they have literally destroyed the difference from the very human condition. It doesn’t even make sense to talk about men and women as if they are different things after this change. Jon and Karyn are no longer a man and a woman, they are now the same sex, they are both. Yet it seemed pretty artificial and hard to believe the extent to which they went out of their ways to pretend otherwise and I don’t think this was even lampshaded by the narration of the story. It seemed very misguided to me, this omission from everyone’s understanding.

wow does this branch deserve more love. It ties different pieces of the story together perfectly and if Jon gets pregnant from this and actually gives birth, it won't just be Karyn but Jon too will have very strong and a deeply personal reason and vested interest for making the new reality permanent that would likely supersede the strength of desire to have his original body back, and allows the character Bernie the chance to grow as a person in the process, and actually drives the story forward instead of just being aimless filler material. It looks like passiveobserver got a real hate following based on his last post, I’m guessing the others writing this story ignored this branch solely out of resentment and contempt for him personally which is a pity since his writing is better than theirs. I kind of don't even want to read the other branch now, they should have just accepted this as canon and continued from here. It looks like the best writers left this place possibly out of disgust. I keep looking at the last few posts of writers and they obviously leave for that reason, lalilu and mystchevious are other examples making this very clear. And I don't see anything recent from BroomB but I bet the reason is the same.

doesn’t seem likely to me that the catgirls’ behavior would be so fundamentally different than humans. Do you not think your caveman and monkey ancestors ate all sorts of gross things? Bet they would be more likely to eat a live mouse than a catgirl raised in modern culture. They should culturally be just the same as humans if they were raised alongside them. I would expect they would be as revolted by eating a live mouse as a typical human, but if not then it definitely wouldn’t be the case that a whole room of humans would be shocked and appalled by this behavior. you know, another thing is they shouldn’t give birth to singletons but have litters if they have 6 breasts. They wouldn’t have evolved to have 6 otherwise, so it really makes little sense that all of Jon’s siblings are just catgirl versions of themselves. Instead of Jon’s brother being a single girl named Tabby, she should suddenly find him replaced by like 4 sisters all the same age.

actually there are a few all female species like the whiptail lizard, it is called a parthenogenic species when they do this and the males disappear entirely, so it actually should have had no trouble granting the result of the roll without complication, it would probably be better to explain it by the stone only affecting things within a few miles if you didn’t want to have the whole world population changed and explain it as best as possible. It seems much less likely they would be able to interbreed with humans since they would be much more distantly related to humans than lions and tigers are to each other, or horses and donkeys, and even they are too distant for their reproduction to be a complete success since the offspring are usually sterile and riddled with other genetic problems

It’s interesting you can infer the difference in the ideologies of the writers by the pronouns they use for Jon. With this one we get a sudden shift to he/him/his again. This one would probably contend you are what you identify as. And not just that, but now Jon is suddenly all sensitive about it and deeply traumatized over the change in body and hung up on "his" gender identity while before this page "she" was simply going with the flow and enjoying it. Honestly though, I would expect to a normal person, that having half a body, never again to have privacy, being immortal and forever bound with your childhood friend would be far more significant and worrying, and a change in gender would be incidental by comparison.

Of course if this was supposed to be taking place in the year 2000 then gold should be 250 to 300 dollars per ounce and those 1000 ounce bars would only be worth a quarter million each.

But don’t forget this is presumably all taking place in the year 2000 when the original fictionbranches passage was posted, so Jon should not know who fictional characters are that were created after this.

Honestly this ought to be fun for anyone else to add to. Be sure to include your favorite genius character or real life person on whatever you write for it. What will Jon have his crack team of intellectual giants cook up?

No probably not Mira. I was mostly thinking about this after watching a haunting youtube video called “Timelapse of the future”. I didn’t actually have a story in mind for this at all. There’s no conflict at this point, no villain, no macguffin, they simply both made mistaken wishes and are now stuck with the consequences. Feel free to write something for it yourself. Maybe have them face some problem which only they in their now botched altered states are qualified to handle.

I see in the internet archive they used to have a rating out of 10 system but if you ever see this, be assured apparently all the old ratings are gone so there’s that at least. Very redpilled. But all the same I kind of would expect different behavior out of Karyn. Remember she ostensibly is best friends with Jon, that makes her probably pretty atypical for a female, I would expect better than an utter lack of sympathy, continually pidgeonholing Mark and standard shaming responses out of her. Of course that would not be as fun to read.

so I’ve kind of set it up with a situation like the video “Llamas With Hats” where there’s the incredibly evil llama who’s for some reason friends with the sensible llama and does terrible things to others, just never to his friend. Jon and Karyn now find themselves in the eye of the hurricane with unique special status, but no one else is safe.

Maybe I should stop having them both use the word “then” so much. I want them to sound like different people after all, and not just both following scripts of the same writer. Probably I should reread the original introduction chapter to see how they talk and if there is anything distinguishing them from each other.

If he had done this to her, he wouldn’t have shone the stone to her at all in the first place, he would just have wished for her body to have been changed and she’d not only not know he was the cause, she’d never have known she wasn’t always that way. Did it maybe mean to say “that when the conditions of the following wish are satisfied ”? I feel like an “are satisfied” was meant to be in there or else the sentence doesn’t make sense.

But if someone else comes along and wishes on the stone, their wish almost certainly will not apply to either Jon or Karyn. So it won’t affect them both since it won’t affect either one of them. Jon also wished for any wish affecting one if them to affect the other. That is still not asking for it to be the same effect. So for instance if he wished to go to Cornell, she would still not be forced to go to Cornell, she would merely be affected by his departure for Cornell, which she would be anyway. I don’t know but maybe you ought to reword this a bit.

You also use the Madison name here. You only corrected the first one. It’s a pity since Madison is a much better name than Gibson, but they already called him Gibson earlier. It’s like the stone itself, once specified in a branch, that is the way it is, and the stuff that is written in the future stemming from that branch must conform to it and can’t go back on what was written earlier in that branch.

Ok. So what. If I encounter such a branch and I add a chapter to it, I will use the name that was established in direct descendant branches, no matter what the name is. It doesn’t seem hard to me. It’s like the stone itself, once specified in a branch, that is the way it is, and the stuff that is written in the future stemming from that branch must conform to it and can’t go back on what was written earlier in that branch.

When chronologically is this taking place? Because the first few pages are from 2000. This thing has apparently existed for so long, that it makes a difference contextualizing it. Like I don’t know if phone booths still even exist in 2022 for instance.

The big danger would be if he sees a woman he finds attractive despite something horribly and visibly wrong with her and therefore her most eye catching attribute was not what he found attractive about her.

It seems like with his condition now, he’ll eventually simply be transformed into an extremely attractive woman, as his body parts get replaced one at a time by the best parts of every woman he sees. Possibly. Is it possible for a woman’s most eye catching feature to be her genitals? There’s a possible discrepancy between eye catching and attractive but the precondition is that Jon finds her attractive so he shouldn’t be changed by looking at her at all if she was eye catching in the freakish sense and not the attractive sense.

It seemed to me that the previous page was a pretty good standalone story but not much of a setup for additions at the end. So here goes a page just to facilitate that.

2 possible follow up plots come to mind for this one, to anyone reading this if I never get around to writing them myself. One is a flashback to the event 6 months earlier, possibly it was all natural or possibly they were using some new drug or quack aphrodisiac. The other is, they decide to link 2 other people like themselves so as to have them as lovers, unable to agree with each other as to whether to have a single male or female lover they decide it would be better anyway to have a linked pair like themselves. fter all it also seems to me that “cheating” on each other would have no meaning since they both would be experiencing it and participating in the act.

Well that would work for the stone itself, but the difference is, it is inevitable that the extraordinary stone would have an extraordinary origin story. There is no surprise factor there and therefore no interesting new information in that. It’s like a good joke, it needs to have something very unexpected as its punchline. So ironically the better choice than the origin story of the stone, which everyone already knows must be extraordinary, is an unexpected origin story of Jon and Karyn’s friendship unexpectedly turning out to be extraordinary, you see? Of course it needs to not cross the line from unexpected to needlessly bizarre and implausible or else it just won’t be a story anyone can swallow and take seriously and that could be a difficult demarcation here.

Completely skipped over the 2010s between chapters on this one. But now it has headway on an actual story after all that time.

Actually of all the branches from “Karyn borrows”, Changing Mario and Luigi to be crossdressers may have been the literal only one that was harmless and therefore not a betrayal of his trust in her so it’s kind of ironic he’s overreacting like this. But I have a feeling she’s going to actually betray his trust from here on.

Well if there’s one thing all the story branches on this page prove, it’s that he was very wrong to think she was trustworthy after all.

I’m reminded of when I was in grade school art class and all the other kids would just produce tracings of popular cartoon characters instead of creating something themselves, and in 1989 when asked to produce creative writing, half the class just replicated the first scene of the batman movie that came out that year. “you tell your friends about me”

The dude literally took a girl off the street, and had her assault her friend, that is violence first of all. And yes the shovel was her only means to knock him out. She’s a teenaged girl. She can’t knock out a guy by punching him. Who do you think she is, Chun Li? And what does he do with his persuasion power? He forces her to have an incestuous threesome with himself and her own mother. That’s pretty fucked up. That proves he doesn’t give a shit about other people. Can you imagine being forced to have sex with one of YOUR parents? You think Jon should give him the benefit of the doubt after that? To just say “I’ll trust him to be alone in a room with my best friend and her mom, now that he can no longer speak I’m sure he’ll live and let live ”? No sir it would have been completely reasonable for Jon to have killed him right there, Cecil is lucky he only got maimed.

The secondary reason for the part I wrote was to activate Karyn’s mom as a new active character for story development. I didn’t just close a door, I opened a new one. Also it returns Karyn into active play. A story is like a game of chess. I just developed 2 pieces and put them into active play, while removing the less valuable piece from active play that was getting in everyone’s way. Please don’t squander the new opportunities that opens. The next logical progression should have been to spill the beans about the wishes to Karyn’s mom, not obsess over the discardrd piece.

A strange condemnation of the actions I wrote into the story and defense of Cecil. First of all, though cruel and unusual, the punishment was in fact fit to the situation- it deprived Cecil of sexual function as consequence for sexually assaulting Karyn and her mom, and the rest was to guarantee he wouldn’t be a physical threat. Just depriving him of his voice doesn’t get them out of danger. What if having lost the ability to control their minds, he had changed his plan to leaving no witnesses? You think that wasn’t likely considering he had already used violence? He could have killed Karyn and her mom right there, he could have pulled out a gun and shot them, or stabbed them, or killed them barehanded, you want to bet on a teenaged girl and a middle aged woman against a young man in desperation? Also what if he went back to the well and made a wish on paper, dropping it into the well along with a coin? Taking his arms seems to me the bare minimum to stop him. And his plans were clearly beyond merely recapturing his youth and sexual experiences thereof, because he already had his youth back as well as an absurd capability he never had as a young man which already let him do that, yet that wasn’t enough for him, since he attacked Jon and Karyn to stop them from filling in the well for no other possible reason but that he was going to wish for still more. What possible reason could he have for needing that well to still be there? Is Cecil your self insertion into the story, a standin for yourself and therefore you see an attack on him as an attack on you? Was he supposed to be your Mary Sue?

How would it make sense that she would turn into a werewolf as a result of becoming custodian of the stone? Jon didn't. The werewolfism is weakly justifying the body hair, but the body hair still doesn't make any sense.

Oops. On rereading this I see I made a mistake. Alt-Karyn says "At first I was thinking you just changed yourself from being my brother to my twin sister but now you say we live in different houses". The problem with this though is that part where Jon was asking Karyn if they were supposed to be brother and sister was in fact AFTER the part where she (that is, unknowingly female Jon - pronouns can be a bitch in stories like this) indicated to Karyn she didn't think Karyn lived there. I don't really know how to fix this without eviscerating the dialogue more than I want to.

And of course the important task of looking back in time is asking the question “how might the starting conditions be deconstructed by looking back to an earlier state.” You see a bowl of water, and looking forward in time and you say “well what then happens to the bowl of water”, maybe an animal comes along and drinks it, or maybe it evaporates. But if you look back in time, you should be thinking “what is the state that existed before the bowl of water, how might the bowl of water be deconstructed”. And maybe it was an empty bowl and it rained, or maybe it was a bowl of ice cubes that melted to bring about the initial conditions everyone was taking for granted of a bowl of water. So in this case, the bowl of water is the very friendship between Jon and Karyn everyone was taking for granted. I perhaps made a taboo move from the perspective of the way everyone was thinking, of deconstructing the very foundation of this thing, having it turn out that they didn't become friends under normal conditions and that the original passage was not the start of the supernatural element to their story.

It comes from thinking of both sides of the timeline. Everyone else was just thinking of continuing the story from the given starting point and working forward in time from there, and no one was thinking about adding to it on the other side of the timeline.

footnote: I chose Sherwood Drive because for some reason I have encountered Sherwood Drives across the US and figured it was the best common generic street name that still sounds like it isn’t. I tried to set up this alternate Karyn for a possible future story that would be a backstory and a flashback for explaining why she is bitter to men while cognizant that it would not be reasonable to hate figures like Mr. Rogers or Albert Einstein, but tried to imply she was extremely intelligent, more than the Karyn we know.

After some further examination and attempts at planning it out, I just can’t complete this thing because the inconsistencies in previous pages are just too extensive. The worst one is “this is a fairly uncommon change, but it’s not at all unheard of. I know of three cases in the last 10 years just in this state.” -At the hospital index 19036 compared against “I am the only sphinx in the world” -Sphinxes talk index 19077. They even refer to Jon as a “mundane sphinx” and not the rare “giant sphinx” in 19039. But now Jon being the sole hope of the sphinx species is the justification for the ancient sphinx badgering Jon specifically apparently and I think that is an untenable problem with the premise. It’s a great story otherwise until its premise collapses at the foundation though.

What I’m not so sure of now is if Karyn confirmed she had been with 30 men 3 pages ago if she was just required to agree with everything Cecil says or if it was the truth. At first I thought it was the former but now I’m not so sure.

Jon: “Well I already know Karyn went off with the guy that can literally order her to do anything and already made her attack and nearly kill me thus proving he is a psychopath, so why could it be that she’s not answering her phone. Hmm I wonder, what EVER could be the explanation for that. Oh woe is me, it must be because she’s mad at me, that’s it. I’m sure she’s not in any danger, or that I’m in any danger, so I guess I’ll just wait around and not do much of anything now, it’s no hurry.”

Wait a moment, just because she can’t say no to him doesn’t mean she would actually do as he said. It seems more reasonable that she would say ok and then hit Cecil with the shovel. I can’t respect this version of Jon and Karyn anyway though, they actually showed up in person to fill in the well with hard work as if that was somehow easier than wishing for it to be done, that makes 0 sense. “We don’t even NEED to wish for the well to be buried, why would we do that when we can simply shovel tens of tons of dirt onto it by hand with shovels!”

It was bound to happen though, it was inevitable someone would eventually make a wish like that. Making unrestricted wish granting accessible to everyone was a terrible plan Jon.

I suspect that for both these branches it’s about to go from wrong to wronger.

it would have been more interesting for how it could go wrong if the writer had him instead say “I wish my wife would get pregnant” or “I wish my wife and I could have children together”.

Definitely this is too much crammed into one page. Should have been made in 2 pieces, part one, they combine into one two-headrd body, get home, part two, they accidentally wish it to be permanent. Because now no one can build anything else starting from just the first part of the plot line, they’re forced to do both or neither. Like maybe I’d like to write a page starting from them not also being immortal and permanently fused, but now I can’t, unless I go back a page and create a new page which is just the first half of this one, bu I’m not gonna do that because that would feel a lot like plagiarism.

This is the one page written by BroomB I don’t like. The justification the mother gives is beyond tenuous. She’s forcing her son to humiliate him/herself first of all. They don’t have any clothes for Jon, which means she’s forcing him out there naked. Without shoes too. On the first day. And as he pointed out, he’s likely to be contagious, and if it wasn’t contagious as she claims, how does she think he caught it himself. And of course after forcing him to publicly exhibit himself in this body he doesn’t want to be in she’ll be rushing straight home to rummage through his room and throw out the rock in the trash before he gets home. It would just be better if instead of being forced into likely lifelong emotional trauma by his unloving mother, if it was his idea, not hers, for him to immediately resume school attendance against his mother’s urging to stay home, out of perhaps compulsive desire to let the adventure created by the rock to play out for a certain amount of time before ending it. As it is, his mother wins the award for worst parent ever and I don’t think “terrible parent” is the right thing to fill her role with considering I’m pretty sure I’m not expected to actually notice how terrible a mom she’s being here.

It appears passiveobserver must flip a coin at the start of every story, half the time he writes very seriously, the other half he’s trolling, but this time I think the coin must have landed on its edge because I can’t tell which one it is.

You have to admire Karyn’s commitment to cheating here, she could just wish for the knowledge to magically be put on her brain so she would pass the test without any effort in studying but no, she wants to wish Jon to be able to disguise himself as her and take the test in her place.

That’s kind of funny as a joke, but damn hard to continue an actual story out of I think. And here I thought for a moment this one was going to be some religious rubbish so at least it wasn’t that. My but it has a lot of hits and few views though, what does that mean and what even is the difference between hits and views?

If this is the only way she can “win” the argument, then she 100% has proved him right, but she lacks the self-awareness to see this.

She’s certainly failing in her supposed objective of showing Jon that girls supposedly have things harder by torturing him like this. This is not a fair and honest average day for a girl, what with being tormented by a sadistic and petty person. If he gets through this with his memory intact (though I doubt he will) and gets his rock back, this version of him should definitely be ending his friendship with this nasty version of Karyn.

My suggested outline of remaining plot and subplots:

Molly/Matt and David encounter, Molly/Matt is more sympathetic to David with possible romance between them both in female form, but Matt eventually returns to normal and things get awkward but their friendship is resolidified. Eventually they also meet Jon in the park and David apologizes for mistreating Jon before, and Jon is dismissive because she has other things to worry about but still accepts the apology. David then builds up a friendly dialog and they learn of each others' ability to communicate with their respective animal kin and have a minor adventure pooling talents to facilitate communication between some rabbits and stray cats, and though not friends, at least the water is under the bridge between Jon and David.

Jon and Karyn find it is impossible to separate the stone from the statue without damaging the statue because when more than one conscious being is touching the stone simultaneously, only the one who has been touching it longer can wish with it and so the ancient Sphinx is the only one who can use it so they can't wish for it to be teleported out of her grip and Jon is not pleased with what the sphinx did to her, understands why she did it and forgives her, and the sphinx wants to continue holding the stone until the mission is complete in order to safeguard it, Jon and Karyn agree. But in the meantime ancient sphinx is willing to revise the original wish for the cold to be replaced by this transformation virus as she can wish for things, and everyone else changes back but of course Jon is stuck this way until 3 generations because that was explicitly wished for and isn't undone.

They later accidentally meet David who is a human male again with no memory of the ordeal as a rabbit girl and very confused by his encounter with Jon and Karyn but still somehow remains a kinder, gentler, more understanding and reasonable person and nice to Jon despite Jon's odd appearance which is now very alarming to him since there are no transformed humans on Earth any more.

Meanwhile Karyn has buyers remorse about changing back and wants to be a catgirl again, she came to like it and is truamatized by having lost her tail, and asks the ancient sphinx who is in control of the stone to explicitly turn her into a catgirl, and the sphinx to the surprise of Karyn but of no one reading wishes for Karyn to turn into a sphinx, justifying it by insisting she gave Karyn what she wanted since a female sphinx is still a type of catgirl. Karyn is angry at first, but Jon and Karyn, looking each over in sphinx form suddenly both seem very distracted and smitten by each other and both just lose control and start making out in the park and after a bit of a tussle, neither one of them is actually down about the new state of affairs.

Training ensues to teach Jon and Karyn to use their sphinx powers under the direction of the shadows and ancient sphinx directly, is met with success. However, contrary to the ancient Sphinx's plans, Jon now suddenly has a huge amount of leverage over the ancient Sphinx because that includes shapeshifting abilities and Jon can actually change back to his original body even though he's in a sense still a female sphinx merely exercising her shapeshifting ability, and doesn't actually need to have 3 generations of sphinxes and reproduce as a female sphinx to change back because he doesn't need a wish from the stone in order to do it. However, he feels sympathy for the ancient sphinx and also has become more attached to his/her female sphinx physical form and lives a dual existence between two species and genders, with he and Karyn as significant others. Jon and Karyn return a few months later, both of them in female sphinx form, heavily pregnant with each others' litters, to tell the ancient sphinx that they're actually going to be giving her exactly what she wanted anyway, eventually at least, but want her help with further generations, since of course they don't want it to involve incest, and the ancient sphinx is overjoyed to learn her species will return and they will oblige her desire even though they didn't have to.

Then 50 years later, and Jon and Karyn, appearing to still be teenagers and in human form, are at a wedding in the same park as the statue sphinx, who suddenly de-fossilizes and becomes living flesh again. She is so amazed to be living again, and is surprised that none of the people at the wedding aren't surprised by this. Until Jon tells her "don't you realize who all these people are? Everyone, let's show her." Everyone at the wedding transforms to their 'true forms', to sphinxes before her eyes, for they are Jon's extended family, hundreds of them. The ancient sphinx breaks down crying and Jon and Karyn hug her, she hands Jon the magic stone after holding it for 50 years, and then they make her a sort of guest of honor at the ceremony.

It's how I'd have it go at least. Maybe I'll write it up eventually.
