Quick plug for the FB Discord server, if you have other issues with the site, or suggestions to improve it, or just want to hang out with other authors/readers

The "Change avatar" link on the settings page was old, and has been removed. You want the section on the settings page labeled "New avatar URL". Put an image URL in that textbox and click the "Update avatar URL" button.

Also note that the URL has to be to an actual image, not a page containing an image. Your current URL https://postimg.cc/JszpL3zm will not work, that is a link to a web page containing an image. Try right-clicking (or long-pressing on mobile) and choose something like "Copy image address". The URL should typically end in an image file extension, like .png, .jpg, or .gif

@t_thxthx do you happen to have JavaScript disabled in your browser? If so, you will need to either enable it or clear your cookies.

Upvotes are intentionally anonymous. Given the nature of the content on this site, I figured that making upvotes public could discourage users from voting on good content because they wouldn't want their name tied to that content. I think the privacy of upvotes is far more important than making sure no one "cheats". And to that point, I'd like to emphasize that this site is NOT a competition to see who can get the most upvotes (or views, or any other metric). If you're trying to compete with other authors to see who can be the "best" author, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Exposing the IP addresses of our users would be an extreme invasion of user privacy. There's no way a feature like that is ever getting implemented.

The "Link" field is the text that will be shown in any links to that episode. For example, if an episode ends with "What does Jon do next?", and you're writing a followup episode, you might want the link on the existing episode to say "Jon gets on the bus", but then you might want the actual Title, displayed in large text at the top of your episode, to say "Jon's Bus Adventure".

Just a bit of extra customization for users who want it. You're free to use identical text for both the Link and Title if you choose.

At this time there are no plans to support a wiki. We did actually have one in the early days of FB 3.0, back in ~2017, but it was quickly forgotten about, and got nuked when I had to migrate the server to a new host. Since then, it hasn't felt worth my time to stand up another wiki, given the lack of apparent interest the last time I did so.

It's been on the to-do list for a while, just haven't gotten around to it yet

I haven't implemented any kind of account deletion, but even if I had, it would only delete your email address and password hash, not your episodes (as doing so would be unfair to any who have contributed to your branches). If you wish, I can delete your email manually. You will permanently lose access to your account.

@Code if you're logged in you can change your theme under account settings. You can find account settings by clicking your name in the top right corner of any page.

@bigbustgazer The ability to subscribe to an author and/or branch is something I considered a while ago, and the site is now in a good place to implement that. Expect to see these features relatively soon.
As for a recently upvoted list, that might take a bit longer. Currently upvotes are not stored with timestamps, so I'd need to add timestamps and then give it a while to actually populate with timestamped upvotes so the list returns meaningful results. And as for weighting that based on depth and/or being a leaf...we'll see. I'm not sure how exactly that would work mathematically.

@Switchchick It's extremely unlikely that I will add a native messaging system any time soon. I toyed around with the idea while ago, but I think it would cause more trouble than it's worth. For now I'll just say that users who wish to be contacted should add some contact info (email, social media handle, etc) on their profile page. If you wish to contact a user and they've not provided any such info, you can try leaving a comment on one of their episodes or posting in The Forum asking for them. Not a great solution I know, but I don't think we really need messaging, and it would require moderation to prevent potential abuse, and like I said, I don't think it's worth the trouble.

@Crazytigerboy Brayn also has some kind of idea for a tagging/grouping scheme that we've been discussion. Not really sure how that's going to work, but expect for something to happen in that regard at some point.

Just do whatever you like. The whole point of having a branching storyline is that you can branch a story, from any point, in any direction you like. You won't get in another author's way because they can always just ignore you and keep extending their latest story.
