"I wish I knew if Joan is safe right now."

Nothing happened, of course; Joan, off the coast of Hawaii, was outside the range of the wish stone. She was in range when the wish was made to move her to Hawaii. but once she had moved, no further wishes would affect her.

Nicole tried several more wishes. She tried to give Joan magic powers; she tried to magically view Joan or read her mind, she tried to wish Joan back to human, but nothing worked. And she didn't think of teleporting herself to Hawaii.

Joan the mermaid tried to back away from the merman. "You said it yourself. You're violating your own laws. You're a criminal! A rapist! Get away from me!" How can this be happening? wondered Joan. Nicole wanted her to be safe from harm. Rape is harm, right?

Joan realized that there was a strange smell in the air. Or rather, the water. She felt dizzy and suddenly felt herself getting cramps, starting at the point where the merman poked her in the lower regions--it seemed that poking her that way, combined with the odor surrounding the merman, had triggered something. Then came a feeling like her insides were slipping away, along with a burst of pleasure, and she felt something squishy come out of a hole in her fish tail.

Then it was over. Floating in the water was a translucent sphere about a foot across. And Joan realized: Mermaids are part fish. Fish lay eggs, and they're fertilized outside the body. Obviously to "bear children" for mermaids meant something different than carrying them inside the body. The egg was different than fish eggs, though, simply because of its size--she touched it and felt a soft, transparent, shell around it. It might have been slimy if she was on the surface, but underwater, it merely seemed soft. And unlike fish, there was only one egg.

And that was why the wish to protect her from harm didn't work. No harm was coming to her, as she watched the surreal sight of a merman--who (again unlike a fish) had a human-like penis--masturbate over the egg without touching her. And it smelled just like it did when she was Jon masturbating as a human.

The egg seemed to change slightly. Her "fish sense" detected a subtle shift in the... charge? Smell? Vibration? of the egg, even though it stayed about the same color.

The merman, satisfied, said "I'm sure we'll meet again. I would like to see our child, and then you can bear another next mating season."

Joan grabbed the egg and angrily swam away from the merman, who half-heartedly chased her, but no longer seemed as motivated now that her egg was fertilized. She hoped that the wish would end soon... it had to be 4 PM already...
