Jonatha woke up early and looked at his phone, only to find an alert and a couple of emails waiting for him.
The first came from the school. Enough snow had fallen overnight in Valley Lake that they couldn't get the buses out and a late start wouldn't help, so school was canceled. One of the emails came from Coach Callie, informing the cheerleaders that there still would be a basketball game tonight.
Since he was already awake and probably wasn't gonna go to sleep any time soon, he got up and looked outside his window at the snow. There wasn't enough to make too much of a mess, but some smaller streets weren't plowed. Jonatha threw on some fuzzy pajamas and made his way down the steps. Zoe was already downstairs, sitting at the breakfast table and wearing a plain black T-shirt. In its own way, the shirt reminded him just a bit of pre-wish Zoe.
"Morning," Zoe called out to her brother. "You're up early."
"Yeah," Jonatha sighed, still getting used to his sister's different voice. "Surprised it's a snow day. Haven't had one of those in a while."
"Mom went to work. She said the highway was open and normal, so she wanted to go in."
"Sounds like her, alright." Jonatha looked around. "Is Mikelle up?"
"Not yet."
Jonatha walked into the family room, sat on the couch and turned on the TV to the morning newscast. Thanks in large part to the weather situation, it felt normal, except for the voices and, when they showed them, the anchors and reporters. At the anchor desk was an attractive-looking blonde man and a sharply dressed woman in a dark gray suit. The entertainment sections were completely different, with unrecognizable performers and songs. Of course, Jonatha thought. Singers go different ways, get marketed differently... He watched a bit, laying across the couch and lightly dozing through the morning show. After a little while, a clamber down of little feet announced Mikelle's entrance into the waking world.
"Snow day!" he smiled excitedly, flashing a smile and going to the kitchen to make himself a bowl of cereal.
"Morning, li'l bro," Jonatha chuckled. He sat up again and thought again. Is it really Tuesday again? One whole week since the wish? He looked around. I feel like it's been a year... Or seven and a half. He thought about it. The wish. The weird classes. The brawl, erased out of reality. The date. The weekend. It felt like an eternity since girls had breasts.
He looked down at his own cleavage. You know... Could he imagine life without Jade, the cheer squad, or even Nicole? Even if boys were still sort of alien to him? I don't think I could...
He got up and decided to fix himself breakfast, though he definitely wasn't up for Mikelle's favorite, sugary Unicorn-Os...
