Joan was still milling around the locker room pretending to look for a place to undress while really trying to think of a way to avoid having to disrobe.
"I really don't want to get undressed in here while I'm like this. Maybe I could just put on some perfume or just rinse off some under the sink in the restroom. Or maybe I should just go to the nurse and tell her I'm sick. I might be sent home if I'm lucky, but then I wouldn't be able to meet up with Nicole after school."
Joan's plans were immediately interrupted by a bright flash and the feeling that her body was shifting just like it did when she was changed into a girl. She felt the tight clothes she was wearing disappear with the exception of her bra which seemed to grow slightly looser and harder. Her legs heated up and seemed to take on a molten state since Joan found herself unable move to split her legs apart, almost as if they were fused together by the heat. The air around Joan turned warm and fresh as she felt the rays of the sun bounce off her body. Joan felt uncomfortably thirsty and "dry", as if she had been stuck in a desert for a month without water. These feelings vanished as Joan suddenly felt herself dropped into a large body of water.
"Shit, what just happened," thought Joan who opened her eyes to see that she was currently in light blue, crystal clear water. She instinctively inhaled deeply to catch her breath, but instead of breathing through her mouth she felt water passing through her side as she felt fresh oxygen course through her body.
She turned her gaze from her surroundings to inspect the changes to her body. The first thing she noticed was that her bra had changed into two large clam shells held together by twine and seaweed, looking like a makeshift undersea bra. Further down Joan's legs were clearly replaced by a large blue fish tail. Joan thought about moving her legs like she would when she walks around and the tail repsonded by swishing around giving her propulsion in her watery surroundings.
"What is going on? I..." Joan's thoughts stopped as her head was filled with the details that Nicole wished she knew about.
"I'm going to be a mermaid until four this afternoon." She instinctively looked at her forearm but she was currently without a watch. "Dammit"
"Thank God this isn't permanent, but what am I going to do for the next few hours?"
