Nicole grabbed a towel and walked over to a nearby bench where her regular school clothes were sitting. She started to shed her sweaty gym clothes in preparation for her shower when she felt a sudden feeling of regret in how she had just treated her best friend.
"Maybe I was a little rough on Joan," Nicole thought. "Joan and I have been best friends since second grade and I just told her off like she was some complete stranger."
Nicole briefly stopped undressing herself and raised her head to see Joan still standing around with a distraught look on her face as she nervously glanced around at the other girls.
"Dammit," Nicole thought, "I think I hurt her feelings. I need to remember that she can be pretty sensitive even though she is a total tomboy. I mean, it's not her fault that she was so excited about the stone. It's hard not to get excited about a stone that grants wishes. Hell, I was bouncing around my room when I first found out the thing was real when I changed the color of my bedsheets. Plus she is the only person that I trusted to tell about the magic stone."
Nicole looked around to see if anybody was watching her. No one was. She slowly reached into her gym shorts pocket and retrieved the stone.
"Maybe I can make it up to her. I can whisper a quick wish and give Joan something that she wants or just something to give her a little taste of what the stone can do. Just something to tide her over until this afternoon. I'll have to be careful how I phrase it since the wishes are irreversible; and I'll also have to wish that she knew about my wish and that the changes that have been made to her reality are caused by the stone or else she won't notice that I have done anything at all."
Nicole watched as Joan finally left the spot where she was standing at and walked towards a bench to get undressed for her shower.
"Hmmm. Now what would Joan enjoy? It's got to be something special. I mean using the all-powerful magic rock to give her a new pair of shoes would be silly. What would make today a really memorable one for Joan?" Nicole pondered numerous wishes that would make Joan's day a memorable one.
