Karas took careful aim and decided the shaman was the greater threat because there were few who could threaten him with a blade but magic was always an unknown. The bolt flew straight and true ending whatever threat the shaman might pose as the bolt entered the shaman's skull. Karas didn't hesitate to drop his crossbow and launch him from cover screaming to cause confusion among his enemies.
Confusion was the enemy of survival and the goblins were certainly confused when Karas leapt into their midst slashing with his short swords slaying several. Instinct for survival caused the goblins to flee in all directions except for the leader who started to bark at the others in goblin. The goblin chieftain snarled but held his ground as Karas approached him.
Karas knew he had to slay the leader before his bravery gave confidence to the others causing them to return. The chieftain took advantage of his small size and agility to dart in and out slashing at the large warrior who pressed his superior skill and strength to close the gap between them. Goblins began to return to the clearing, so Karas took a calculated risk and lunged forward planting one sword in the chieftain's chest and threw the other into one of the returning goblins. Confidence vanished at the death of their leader and one of the returning goblins and they soon vanished from sight as they fled the scene.
Breathing a sigh of relief Karas began to systematically survey of the scene while keeping an eye wary for any returning or new threats in the area. The stop had proved lucrative with a pile of coins and jewelry which were easily transferred into his bag of holding, and there were a few interesting items. A couple of scrolls and a book of magic were among the items that had been stolen by the goblins. Karas wasn't sure of their value but magic users were always willing to part with things for new magic. A strange orb was on the shaman and he decided to take and possibly investigate it further from the safety of the city.
Having collected all of the valuables he needed to decide on his next action. Karas could head directly for his original mission, take evasive action to make sure none of the goblins followed him, or investigate where the goblins had gotten their ill-gotten gains, because the original owners might be very grateful.
