As Doug got down their bags from the overhead compartment, and they waited to exit the plane, Nick was stoney silent. They got disembarked, and walked through the airport to catch a cab to the hotel that their meeting was at.
"What's the matter?" Doug said in a calm quiet voice. "You seem angry."
"How could you do that to me?" she choked. "You molested me...treated me like a piece of meat. How could you?"
Doug stopped, and gazed steadily into her eyes. "What do you mean? Why the change? You didn't mind last time. Its been weeks since we've been alone together."
Nick turned pale. "Last time? What's been going on between Megan and Nick?" she thought to herself. She had been irritated by Doug hitting on Megan, but she had never thought that Megan had returned Doug's interest. Still, Megan spent a lot of time with Doug, and she had never seemed to mind his flirting. When Nick had complained, she just replied that Doug was her boss, and she had to get along with him.
"You know, Megan, you are the one. If you loved me, you'd leave that loser boyfriend of yours and move in with me."
Megan felt faint. It was true! Megan and Doug must be having an affair! And all he had been thinking about was getting back home with Megan. And yet Megan had put him on the plane with Doug! What was going on?
Doug gently touched her shoulder and again gazed into her eyes. "You really don't look well, Megan. Let's get you to the hotel so you can rest. I'm sorry I got carried away on the plane. It's just the way I feel about you..."
They walked outside. She was surprised it was still late afternoon, but of course, they had gained several hours in their flight west. In the cab, she laid against the window, with her eyes closed, and her mind racing. What a strange day. Not only had she suddenly become a different gender, and a different person, but her assumptions about herself and her life had been proven wrong.
She was in a daze as they checked into the Hilton. After giving registration information, she sat on a nearby sofa as Doug waited for their room assignment and keys. "We are next to each other, in rooms 201 and 202." He handed her the key card to his room, and put the others in his pocket. He picked up their bags and they walked to the elevator.
"Do you feel up to coming down for dinner later?" he asked.
"Do you think accounting would mind if I ordered room service...just this once? I'd like to stay in and rest tonight."
"Of course, you deserve it. We don't have anything to do till 10AM tomorrow, rest up."
As she unlocked her door, and went into her room, Doug said, "Sleep tight..I'll call you in the morning and see if you want to have breakfast and go walking on the beach. With the time change, we'll probably wake up early. Good night."
