Many who saw Sir Garrett would think he had always been the rich and powerful noble that presented itself in the gleaming silver armor, but he had known much hardship as a child orphaned by fearsome monsters killing all his relatives who had been over to celebrate a wedding. He had managed to escape but the scenes still filled him with a rage that he only controlled with the discipline he received by the knighthood. The Order of the Silver Griffin had taken the orphaned Garrett into their care and trained him and he had repaid them by slaying so much evil the King granted him a noble title and full knighthood.
Money meant very little to the newly minted Sir Garrett but that changed when he met the Princess Fina who was the daughter of King Emeril. A penniless noble might have been fine if he came from a long noble line but he was a former peasant and the King made it clear he wasn't good enough for his daughter, so Sir Garrett dedicated himself to gaining the money and prestige to be able to marry him. The only thing that preserved his quest was the fact Princess Fina loved him. She frequently talked of eloping with him and if it was for the vows to his order Sir Garrett would have taken her up on the offer but he couldn't betray the trust of the men and women who loved and raised him.
King Emeril had promised Sir Garrett the hand of Princess Fina if he eliminated the threat in the dread swamp and Sir Garrett promised he would. Life had changed greatly since his childhood but living with someone he loved once again still sounded wonderful.
