Hitomi's heart stopped for a moment.
"R-right now? With people watching?" Her lip trembled a little.
"Oh babe, I'm sorry. Didn't mean to scare you." He leaned in to give her a hug. Somehow the hug was very reassuring to her. "You know me, blurting out things without thinking."
Hitomi sighed in relief, but she was confused. Why didn't the wish come true? Also, why hadn't she ever noticed how handsome Joseph was? Was she attracted to men now? It certainly seemed that way. Her face turned red when she imagined the two of them having sex.
Of course, being completely unaware of his girlfriend's thoughts, Joe prattled on. "Don't think I'm into public sex, or anything. I still prefer to do it with just the two of us, in a bedroom. With nobody watching. Ah jeez, why did I say something so stupid?" He seemed to think it upset her. His concern was sweet to her.
Hitomi giggled. "Don't worry, Joe. I forgive you." She added a wink at the end of her sentence, which Joe just caught as he broke their hug. He also caught her blushing.
"Horny from the sextalk, babe?" he said with a smirk, causing her to blush more.
"Uhm, uh... Sort of." She looked away, a little embarrassed that he could read her so well. Odd, seeing as they've only been a couple for a few minutes.
Joe smiled at her, stood up and extended his hand. "Let's go back to our room." Hitomi only smiled as he helped her get up. They quickly stuffed their towels in a tote bag that was apparently theirs. "Don't forget this." Joe said as he planted a straw hat on her head.
"Arigato." Hitomi said without thinking. She grabbed his hand, as it seemed the logical thing to do. Together they walked back to their hotel, hand in hand like young couples do. They were a young couple. A boy and a girl in love. Just now the girl realized why the boy's wish didn't come true. It wasn't his birthday.
