To Jon, the whole world shimmered and everything was different. It was still not too warm, but the smell of the ocean, the sound of the surf, the sight of all those girls... They were at the beach.
To Joseph, they had just come to the beach the normal way--he didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
Well, thought Jon, that wish was pretty harmless. "I wish I knew why we weren't transported to Florida," said Jon. But then he realized the answer--the wishes still had a range and Florida was outside it. And then he realized something else--he hadn't gotten an answer to the question. He didn't have the stone!
Then Jon looked at his watch and saw the date. It was indeed the start of spring break. Time must have been reversed for him and Joseph and they were then transported to the beach. But if it was the start of spring break, he hadn't received the stone yet! He'd have to wait a week to get it.
Which means he had to spend a week with Joseph making two wishes and him being completely powerless to do anything about them with his own wishes, even indirectly.
With trepidation, Jon tried to get Joseph to use up the second of his three wishes, "So, Joseph, what do you think of the beach? If you could, um, make one wish to make this beach better, what would it be?"
"That's easy," said Joseph, "I'd say 'I wish that....'"
