In the morning John got up at his regular of 6:45 am. He started the day like he did any other day by brushing his teeth, combing his hair, and getting dressed.
It wasn't until he was through with all of this that he went to his dresser to get the stone from its' hiding place. John was very giddy about what he had planned for the day and it all centered around the rock.
John opened his drawer of boxer shorts and started to probe underneath them for the stone but instead of a stone they came across a piece of folded paper.
A sense of dread suddenly filled John as he took out the paper, unfolded it and started to read it. The first thing that John noticed was that the handwriting was very familiar. It read:
Dear John,
You're probably wondering where your wishing stone is at and why it's gone. Yes, I know all about the wishing stone. I can't believe that Grandpa would entrust something like this to you instead of me AND I can't believe that you would hide this from me!
If you are wondering how I found out, well, I was spying on you when you wished for a new flat screen tv and I overheard you talking on the phone with Karen about it. (Don't act so surprised that's what big sisters do.)
Anyway, I have liberated this little godsend from your greedy little hands. I'm waiting for you downstairs so you better have a damn good explanation for keeping me in the dark about this.
Love,
Your big sister Becky
P.S. Don't worry about being late for school, I made a little wish to have it cancelled for the rest of the week. Oh, and Mom is at work the whole day today so don't even think about getting her involved.
"Oh crap," said John crumpling up the note and throwing it into his garbage can.
John walked out of his room when he realized that while Becky knew that the stone granted wishes she didn't know that they were irreversible. John picked up his stride as he ran downstairs to confront his sister.
