"Tom, I don't think this is such a good thing," I said, quietly.
"No, this is perfect," Tom excitedly replied. "Now I can sneak into the girls' changing rooms or anywhere I want! Thanks buddy!"
"Tom, don't do this, please," I begged. "We don't know when it'll wear off, and what if you get caught? How are you gonna explain away invisibility?? We could get in serious trouble for this, and not just with the school! C'mon, Tom, let me try and make you visible again, please? ...Tom?"
There was no reply.
"Tom??"
Then I saw that the laboratory door was ajar. He'd skipped out on me! The git!!
Tom walked down the empty corridor, smiling an invisible smile. Now he could do anything he wanted, forget school! He left the school building and walked across the playground to the gate. He had the best part of an hour to kill before the girls started their PE lesson, and almost another hour before they came back for showers at the end of it. That was when he planned to be there. Tom walked down the main road into the centre of town.
It was pretty quiet in town at this time of day. With almost everyone at work or school, the streets were bare. He stood in front of an electronics shop.
Time to experiment, he thought.
He entered the shop and walked straight towards the big widescreen TV on display, with a digital camera connected to it. The image on the screen was meant to show anyone caught in the eye of the camera, but Tom didn't show up at all.
"Sweet!" Tom said, quietly so the clerk across the store wouldn't hear. "Now... test number two..."
He slowly reached towards the digital camera, one eye on the clerk. As his fingers closed around it, it happened. The camera vanished into thin air!
So I can make things invisible by holding them, Tom thought as he grinned broadly. So this is why my clothes are invisible too... This will come in very useful indeed!
Feeling quite empowered, Tom thought nothing of disconnecting the camera from its mount and walking out of the store with it. He didn't even bother running when the camera set off the alarm at the exit. No one was going to find him, after all.
"I can give you a good test run," he said to the camera, "in the girls' changing rooms later."
