Jon woke up early the next morning; it wasn't a very restful night. He had dreams about Karen, the only one in the world he could trust. Jon took a quick shower and walked to school early. He watched kids come off the bus and waited for Karen's bus to come so they could talk about the stone.
As Jon waited at school, thinking, he noticed all of the butcher paper signs with fancy writing and pictures by cheerleaders (who would probably grow up to be pro block letter writers).
Jon never planned to go to junior prom; he never even had a girlfriend. He wondered why he and Karen never went out. He definitely found her attractive (and had trouble keeping his composure the day before, when Karen made her wish). Jon never wanted to ruin their friendship, but Karen just never seemed interested. She never even looked at boys; she seemed happy to be by herself.
