"I wish," said Karyn, "that except for our memories, everything will change so that you've always been a girl dressed as a boy, but that things won't be very different, because you're so good at hiding the fact that you're a girl that everyone except, umm, your parents and your doctor, thinks you're a boy and nobody knows about the disguise. And... I knew I was forgetting something. We may be out of the wish range. I wish that if there are places not within range of the previous wish, they would be affected as soon as we got in range. How's that, Jon?"
"I suppose... I wish I was just a boy again, but that's not going to work."
"Look at it this way, at least everyone thinks you're a boy."
"Yeah, they do, but... Wait a minute. Everyone? You mean that my sister Zoe and my brother Mikey don't know about it? Zoe's 13 years old, and Mikey's 10... they've got to have found about it sometime."
"I guess not."
"What about locker rooms?"
"Oh, stop worrying, Jon. I wish we knew why Jon's secret was never discovered in the locker room."
The answer came to them. Many years ago the power had failed while the football team was changing clothes, and the team went on to score a big victory. Ever since then all the students decided to adopt a routine of changing clothes in the dark. They could pick the clothes out while the lights were on, but someone would have to turn off the lights before anyone stripped.
"That's ridiculous!" said Jon.
"But it works" answered Karyn. "And do you realize your voice sounds just like your old self? I did say you'd be really good at disguising."
Jon said "Ahem... Ahem... wow, I really do. I wasn't even thinking when I did it. It's like I've been doing it for years! I have to...." She deliberately spoke the next words in her girl's voice. "to remember to not speak like that, it's so natural."
"One thing," she said, pointing to the tape. "I wish that you had some better fitting elastic bands to hold your breasts down."
The bands suddenly appeared in Jon's hands. "Cheese" she said, but nothing happened. "Must have been a one time only wish. Karyn, please hand me the stone, I need to wish it again."
"Do you really want to do that, Jon? You could mess things up, and besides instantly changing your clothes without thinking can cause problems of its own."
"Yeah, let's go back to the others." Jon put her clothes on and left the room with Karyn... to see Kevin and Megan waiting with bags of burgers and a 2 liter soda bottle. "Oho" said Kevin, "you were making out in there!"
"No we weren't!"
"I know, man, just kidding."
It was clear that Kevin did think of Jon as a guy. And she was supposed to be really good at disguising, so she could probably keep the disguise up. Still, really good wasn't perfect. Could her secret, after all, be discovered somehow?
