“Hey Jonatha?” someone called out. Jon paused, looking up. Did someone just call him Jonatha? Was that how boy’s names worked now? Like...some sort of weird mashup between feminine and masculine names? He felt a hand on his shoulder.
“Are you alright? I heard that something had happened in gym class and I came over to check on you.”
Jon…or rather, Jonatha, looked up. Standing next to him with a look of concern on their face was a girl—Jonatha shook his head; this was a boy now thanks to Nicole’s wish. This was going to take some getting used to.
“I’m…I’m fine,” Jonatha managed to get out, holding back the tears. The boy looked at him and frowned.
“You don’t look fine.” He sat down on the bench next to Jonatha. “Come on, what happened?” After an awkward moment of silence, he added, “Hey, we’re best friends, right? You can tell me anything.”
So this was his best friend in this reality? Jonatha looked at the boy, examining him. The boy had blonde hair which he wore in curls that fell down just past his shoulders. He wore a red blouse which had a very low neckline and denim short shorts. If this boy was his friend, what did that make Karyn?
“Is this about the wishing stone?” The boy asked. Clearly, he was not going to leave Jon—no, Jonatha alone and if he knew about the wishing stone then that meant that Jonatha trusted him enough to tell him about that. Surely that meant that he could tell the boy about Nicole’s wish?
Jonatha nodded slowly as tears started to roll down his cheeks. The boy gasped and covered his mouth with his hands which, Jonatha noted, were manicured and painted red to match his top.
“OMG! What happened?”
Jonatha explained what happened with Nicole. As Jonatha told him what happened, the boy looked sceptical at first but then slowly he started to nod in understanding.
“Wow!” the boy said in shock. Jonatha nodded. “I mean, if you hadn’t shown me that rock of yours then I’d have to say that I wouldn’t believe you.” Jonatha looked at him frightened. “But…” he continued. “While I find it hard to believe, and based on how you’re acting. I do.”
Jonatha breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you,” he replied. The boy reached forward and hugged him. Jonatha had never been hugged like that before. It was warm and comforting.
“Hey, what are best friends for?” he asked as he released the hug. The door opened again.
“Oh. Jonatha, Lucie, there you are. Miss Hopkins is looking for you.” The boy closed the door behind him.
"Well, at least I know my best friend’s name now," Jonatha thought to himself as he noticed Lucie looking him up and down.
“You’d better get dressed,” he said.
“Huh?” Jonatha replied, confused before he looked at himself sitting there in just his underwear. “Oh...right,” he realized, blushing. Looking at himself made him even more aware of just how big his breasts really were. Jonatha turned to get his clothes out of the locker before pausing.
“Do you…do you mind helping me?” he asked, blushing again.
