"Hold on there, Miss," the ranger said, holding his hands up to calm Jon down. "Didn't mean to scare you."
"Well, you did," Jon told him, clutching her chest. "What do you mean sneaking up on me like that."
"I wasn't sneaking," the ranger told her. "I was just coming up to collect the fees for the campsite."
"Oh," Jon smiled, a little ashamed. "Right. Let me take care of that right now." She reached behind her to get her wallet, but when she found her hip pocket empty, she remembered that she didn't have one anymore. It was wherever her pants had gone when Karyn had turned her into a Playboy Bunny.
For a second, Jon panicked, but then remembered that Karyn's purse was on the front seat of the car. Well, she thought, she's the one that got rid of my money. Looks like she's paying for this trip. To the ranger, she said, "I just need to get my purse from the car." She pointed to it, before walking over.
The ranger followed her. "Are you staying out here by yourself, Miss?" he asked.
"No," she answered, pulling Karyn's handbag out of the car and looking for the girl's wallet. "I've got a friend with me. How much is it?"
"Five dollars," he replied. "Would that be a boyfriend, then?"
Pulling a five out of the wallet, Jon handed it to him. "Oh, no," she said quickly. "It's my friend, Karyn."
The ranger looked around the campsite. "Karyn?" he repeated. "Well, where is she?"
Jon hesitated for a second before answering. "Oh, she's around here somewhere. Probably closer than we think."
"And she left you here to set up camp by yourself?" he smiled. "Doesn't sound like much of a friend to me."
Jon causally scratched her chest, feeling the bra beneath her t-shirt. "Oh, don't judge Karyn too harshly," she smiled. "She helps out in her own way. For instance, she keeps me under control. Why, without her, I'd be bouncing all over the place."
"Well," the ranger grinned, "let's hope she gets back soon. Wouldn't want you to do something...bouncy." He tore a receipt out of his book and handed it to her. "You girls have a nice evening. If you need anything, my cabin is just down this road. Goodnight."
He smiled one more time, and walked back to his truck that was parked next to the road. Jon watched him go, wondering about his last statement. What was that all about?
And then it hit her. He was flirting with me! And from his reaction, he thought I was flirting back. Was I? The thought disturbed Jon a lot. Was it possible that the longer she remained a girl, the more she became one? And what about Karyn? Was she becoming just an ordinary brassiere?
