When they walked back towards the tents they saw that the other girls were nearly done washing the breakfast dishes. They wouldn't have much time to search for the necklace before they would be expected to join the other's for whatever activities Mrs. Diver had planned for that morning.
They quickly ducked into their tent and began searching everywhere for the missing necklace. They had searched nearly everywhere with no luck when they heard Mrs. Diver calling their names and coming closer to their tent.
"Quick. We've got to find it before Mrs. Diver makes us do other things." Mikey said in desperation.
"I know. I know. I'm looking." Diane answered pulling all of her clothes out of her backpack in the off chance the necklace had somehow ended up in there.
Mikey spotted something shiny shoved way down into the foot of his sleeping bag just as they heard Mrs. Diver call their names again from right outside their tent. "Michele. Diane. It's time to do some group activities. Come on out."
Mikey ignored her and stuck his hand deep into his sleeping bag grasping for what he hoped was the necklace. He felt his fingers wrap around the chain of the necklace just as Mrs. Diver stuck her head into their tent.
"Come one girls. It's time to... oh," Mrs. Diver stopped talking when she saw the mess that Mikey and Diane had created in their hasty search. "What were you two doing in here? It's a complete mess."
"Michele lost her necklace." Diane spoke up quickly. "We were looking for it."
"Oh? The one with the cute little pendant on it?" Mrs. Diver asked.
"Yes." Mikey answered. His hand was still clutching the necklace chain but he hadn't pulled it out of the sleeping bag yet. He was reluctant to do so while Mrs. Diver was watching. She might insist that he put it on if she knew they had found it. He wasn't sure whether or not he would sudden turn back into a boy when he put it on and he certainly didn't want Mrs. Diver to find out about the magic necklace that way if it did work.
"Well, you can look for it later when we pack up to go home. Right now the rest of the girls are waiting for you two so that we can start our fun for the day." Mrs. Diver said.
Reluctantly, Mikey released his hold on the necklace's chain and he and Diane left the tent to join the other girls for their activities on the last day of their camping trip.
