"W-why us?" asked Naziim, saying what we were all thinking, "A-and why are we all different? Shouldn't it be different versions of one person not six different people. A-at least that's how it is in books and TV shows and stuff."
The wizard shrugged "I believe that you were all consciously chosen by the stones to reunite them into one. Why it chose six different people? I cannot say for certain, but my guess would be that you are all needed and at some point you will all be called upon to play a vital part."
"So why are we all from different worlds?" asked Trezah. "Sir Dexter here called me by a girl's name, but I'm a guy, or at least I was back home, so I know he's not my Karl."
"Karl?" I asked, "He was a Karyn where I come from." Sir Dexter stared at me in shock.
"I'm a girl in your world Jen?" he asked.
"Jon," I corrected him, "And yeah, you were."
"Ahem," interrupted the wizard "I am sure it was because there exists no world in which all six of you would exist simultaneously; it was easier for the stones to spread to six different worlds where they could each mould one individual than entering one and moulding six together."
"H-how do we all recognise each other?" stammered Naziim, "If it's choosing different people, why choose people who know all the counterparts of the others?"
The wizard took a long drag on his pipe. "The stones are intelligent. Presumably they chose based on a whim or because it amused them to do so." He glanced in my and Naziim's direction for a second "Maybe they want to teach you something. You all know each other's counterparts, but you don't necessarily know the true them; the counterparts you know are different to the ones here it is true, but the potential to become them lies within each and every counterpart you know; maybe the stones are giving you a chance to get to know them that you would never have had in your home worlds."
Haziim and I glanced at each other and blushed. I knew why I blushed and had a hunch that Haziim blushed for the same reason. Digesting the wizard's words I wondered if his counterpart in my world harboured the same feelings. I resolved to find out when I got back.
"So why does it need us?" asked 'Sarah' "Can't we just use one of the stones to wish it done?"
