Anne felt ridiculous, as she walked along the street towards downtown. But the people who saw her seemed to be pleased to see her. And not just because of what she was wearing, but because of who she was. She was a superhero now, so that meant a lot of recognition and even fans.
When she finally got downtown, she was stunned. The scene was a mess, to say the least. It looked like there had been multiple explosions. Cars were turned over and some were still burning. The streets were deserted, except for a couple of people running around, probably trying to find a place to hide.
She looked up and saw a man flying though the sky and then landing about twenty feet away. Anne recognised him from the viewscreen in her office. It was "Superguy". She smirked at the name. It sounded too much like "Superman".
"Circe! Where have you been? I called you almost a half hour ago!"
Anne didn't know what to say. All of this superhero business was new to her. She didn't know how to get downtown faster than she had.
"Uh, I was held up."
Superguy shook his head. "Well, at least you're here. As you can see, The Bandit ripped apart this place. I think he's hiding in one of the buildings, but I'm not sure which one. X-ray Man is searching for him right now."
Anne just had to snicker again. "X-Ray Man" wasn't a very original name, not any more than "Superguy".
"This is no time to be laughing," he said. "We need to make sure that The Bandit stays in prison this time."
Anne nodded. But she couldn't help but make light of the situation. It was like it was a comic book movie come to life. Except she didn't know any of the characters, as they were all created by the wishing stone. She now wished that she had the stone with her so that she'd know more about everything in this new reality. She had no idea of what was going on. Who was The Bandit? She wouldn't be able to recognise him even if she saw him.
In the distance, Anne heard an explosion.
"That might be him. Come on," Superguy said. "Let's go." He held out his hand and Anne took it. He flew up into the air, taking Anne with him.
