"I wish we were human again," I said, paw firmly on the rock. Nothing happened. "Blast it, Karyn, your wish to have seen me as a mother must mean until giving birth! Now what are we going to do?"
"What's wrong?" Anne asked, alarmed and curious as she looked between Karyn and I.
"This stone grants wishes, but it can't undo a wish made earlier." I flicked my ears back. "Don't ask how we ended up here, it was just a strange series of accidental wishes, and they got... interpreted badly."
"That rock grants wishes?" Anne asked, looking down at my paw suddenly. "How bizarre!"
"Jon, maybe you can wish that the kittnes get moved to a surrogate mother, or something," Karyn interrupted. "Or maybe something else to get us out of this!"
"Hey!" Anne knocked the stone out from under my paw with one foot, then grabbed it and back out of my reach. "I'm not going to let you two do anything that's going to harm those kittens -- I worked hard to get this breeding program approved here!"
"Hey! Give that back!" I yowled. "We don't want to be stuck here! I certainly don't want to give birth, either! This was all a mistake!"
"Come on!" Karyn exclaimed. "You got to let us out of these cages!"
"Uh-huh. So this stone grants wishes?" Anne held the stone in her hand. "I wish...
