"Mooooomm! Daaadddd! I'm hooooommee!" I called out a bit tentatively from the door as I returned home, Karyn beside me. I grimaced a bit at the sound of my voice, my tail swishing back and forth apprehensively. That last wish really seemed to have messed things up. But everything would be fine back at home. Right?
"Oh, there you are Jonni!" My father said with a grin as he opened the door. "Your mother and I were beginning to wonder what had happened to you. You're a little late. Oh, hi Karyn!"
"Hi Mr. Meyer!" Karyn replied with a smile, waving. Karyn and my family had always gotten along pretty well. I breathed a little sigh of relief at my father's appearance. Everything seemed perfectly normal. The fact that he didn't bat an eyebrow at my form or gender was a bit disconcerting, but everything else was fine
"Well, come on in you two!" Dad said, holding the door open. "Your mother is in the kitchen working on supper. "
"Oh, that's okay dad " I said, relaxing a bit. "Karyn and I are going to go to a bit of a.. study group later on " I said, trying to gloss over the date. Or not date.
"A study group, hmmm?" My father said with a small grin. "Well, okay then. You'd better go let your mother know first though."
"Sure thing dad." I smiled a bit and nodded at Karyn as we entered the house, relaxing a bit. Last things at home hadn't changed much
I gasped as I passed the kitchen
"Hi Jonni! Hi Karyn! How was school today?" Mom asked. Only mom as a bit different looking today. It could have been her new hairdo. Or her new manicure. But what REALY caught my eye was the fact that she had a TAIL and was covered with FUR!
"Um. . We're fine Mrs.. Meyer.." Karyn quickly put in to cover my silence as my throat closed up.
"Well, that's nice to heard. Are you okay sweaty?" Mom asked, giving me a concerned look.
"I.. I'm fine.. " I said a bit hoarsely. "Um.. I just wanted to tell you. . Karyn and I are going out to study bit later " I said, trying to take everything in. This was insane! My one little wish caused all THIS?!?
"Oh, really? But I made meatloaf tonight, and I know how you love it. Well, you can always have leftovers tomorrow " she said with a grin. "So, who are you studying with?"
"Mark and Zach " I said without thinking, still trying to take in the changes.
"Ohhh, that nice boy Mark and Zach, hmmmm?" My mother asked speculatively. "Well, have fun." She grinned knowingly. "don't study TOO hard! And remember not to stay out too late.. you know how you get on nights like these "
"Um.. S. . sure mom " I stuttered a bit. Just then my father walked in and wrapped his arms around my mom's waste, hugging her.
"How's dinner coming along dear?" He asked.
"Just fine honey. Just remember to keep your fingers off the roast till it's done "
I shook my head and quickly slipped away while my parents talked. Karyn and I quickly started heading up to my room.
"Jonni.. Your mother " Karyn said quietly.
"I noticed!" I said, rying to calm myself. "We'll just have to think of a way around my wish. That's all. No big deal " I said as I reached my room. After all, how much could one little wish have changed?
