I managed to track down Karyn during the next class change. "Karyn!"
Karyn turned around at the strange voice, then blinked at me. "Jon...?" she asked, then started to giggle. "Is that you?"
I flicked my tail. "Yeah, what's so funny?" I looked at myself and shrugged. "I just thought I'd do something different for a while. It's been fun watching people react."
Karyn snickered. "If you were dressed in less, I'd call you a cute sex kitten. Gotten asked out for any dates, Jonni?"
I felt my ears flip back. "Oh, hush! I think I look fine. Hey, can I have my stone back, please? It's almost noon."
Karyn nodded and tried not to laugh at the morphic leopardess. Jon did look cute like that, she thought. She half-wondered if this might be her own fault, that if she had accidently influenced Jon somehow -- she wasn't sure. "Yeah, here you go." Karyn reached back to dig out the box with the rock in it, but just at the moment another student hurrying past bumped into her and knocked the box out of her hands.
"Oh no!" I exclaimed as the box fell to the floor and burst open. The stone bounced out and skittered across the hallway floor. Karyn scrambled to pick up the pieces of the box and the note from my uncle while I went after the stone. Unfortunately, someone else picked it up first...
